I was kinda expecting some midcore content. Im excited for the chaotic alliance raid (to a point). But if the ffxi alliance raid isnt even XI gear (and it becomes some "inspired" gear like the mh event--which still pisses me off as their copout answer), that wont keep me subbed after the first or second week of november.

Field operations will be the midcore content.

Which means midcore players are free to unsub until summer if they don't care about housing demolition.

Basically, from what I am seeing is this game is no longer catering to my playstyle or content desires anymore. Those of us who have zero interest in Extremes, Savages and other midcore/hardcore content are basically told to play old content or kick rocks. From what I am seeing, 7.1 has a few hours of content at most for me, and that's it. I could unsub until next Spring and miss nothing.

At this point, I think it's time for me to just pack it up. The developers want to focus on the playerbase who enjoys higher difficulty. I play this game to relax and have fun, not do content that stresses me out and gives me anxiety.

So, we shall see. But I think my 11 year journey is close to an end and I don't think it will be a simple unsub for me. It will be complete character deletion and account deletion. A door permanently closed.

    That is a vast exaggeration.
Through those 11 years, another thing the community always praised was the whole thing of: "If there's no content or things for you to do in the game, it is okay to play other games in-between. FFXIV is a game that respects player time." Not exact words, but as Yoshi-P said. So, why is it different now? Who knows.

Its different because there are players that actually want to play the game, but Square Enix refuses to fill it with the content that we had in the past to fill those niches. Things like Field Operations, Deep Dungeon, or the new Variant Dungeons, to name a few. If you are not interested in "single room with boss" content, the game currently offers little of replay value or of substance to you. This is a different problem to tackle than respecting a players time, frankly.
Being able to make meaningful progress in a few hours a week is a good design value of FF14, but that only works if there is content there that people want to engage with to reach a goal of their chosing.

The fault in that is that they designed everything to be locked behind a queue instead of making the world feel alive.
There's nothing to do in any of the game zones, at any time given, worse even if you already completed your Shared Fates.
Give something to be done in the world, and this changes, but they need to push away from a design system they embraced since... Hard to tell, really. I remember Fates to be meaningful in ARR and HW, but not as much in Stormblood, and world was completely abandoned from Shadowbringers to forward.

You are not wrong there, and I do agree. The game zones are empty backdrops used for MSQ and then mostly ignored, which is a damn shame, thats for sure. They should be filled with life and players engaging with the game.

Agreed. People don’t realize that this is SQUARE ENIX. Unlike most companies, it doesn’t care about profit. In fact, the company lost 70% of its profit last year and it’s only getting worse this year. These concerns are about making the game “better”, but guess what: it’s SQUARE ENIX. They don’t need to make it better. Why would they? For money? They don’t care. It’s basically a charity at this point. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t hang around the Salvation Army for a good time. Anyone who’s begging for the game to “get better” just doesn’t understand that FFXIV isn’t in the “it gets better” genre.

This is a bridge they need to want to cross, this expansion I got my FC, who never stepped in an Extreme/Savage/Ultimate, or even knew their rotations, and we went to tackle the Extremes of Dawntrail.
We got clear in 2h and it was super-fun and chill, I had never done an Extreme while it was current content either.
Not everyone has a fc or a static at the ready to do that. For the rest there is only pf and that can be a massive chore for harder content.
Savage is a massive jump in difficulty. There is a reason people ask for more stuff between extreme and savage.

You also only see it from a perspective of people not wanting to do savage.
There are people with very young family, those who work in shifts or just people not too good at this game. For those it’s more a matter of should I and not do I.

Can you do those things over a large time and slow? Sure but good luck staying sane with doing a savage fight for weeks on end.
Also some are just not interested in that content same as many who were not interested in island sanctuary. Thats nothing wrong though on both sides.
There are also those who stopped doing savage for one reason or the other (like me).

Fact is that DT seems to have lots of content for raiders and not so much for others outside of the typical leveling stuff or questing.
There are no new Gold Saucer minigames, housing updates outside of apartments or whatever.

If we take 7.1 and the expansion there are 3 extremes, 4 savage raids, 1 ultimate, 1 savage alliance fight.
Thats quite a number of raid content.

I think people have a right to think that the raiders get a bit much attention nowadays and especially midcore players have very little till the field operations arrive and we don’t know how those will be implemented.
