Square Enix is still providing a service that we pay for monthly.

Whether they can or can’t mitigate this (I’m not a network or security admin, or any kind of “admin-y” expert) isn’t really our concern here — we’re the customers.

The product we’re paying for is either inaccessible or not functioning as intended, which directly affects the value of our subscription. It’s leading to lost time investment (in things like PotD, PvP, PvE, etc.) and, ultimately, a loss of money. It’s also causing stress over something that’s supposed to be a source of stress relief (ranked CC doesn’t count ;p).

While I can sympathize — to an extent — with arguments about the server-side issues being difficult to fix, I can’t sympathize with the lack of compensation for the lost game time.

As someone who works in IT and specifically with AWS, I can confirm there is no such thing as DDOS resistant servers and anyone claiming such is a definitive liar.

At the end of the day, there are no good (for an MMO) and definitive ways to stop a DDOS attack, only delay. Now while there are practices that can help remediate, like adding proxy servers which can slow down or limit the incoming traffic, such a solution will also directly affect the playerbase, specifically in the form of very long queues or massive delays between client and server (registering attacks, GCDs not working, aoe damage being pooled together than landed simultaneously when it catches up etc), all of which would make XIV unplayable anyway.

Not to mention the amount of money that would be required monthly to create such an environment via AWS to protect all servers would be likely in the millions. Only the government would even consider going such a route.

The delays were the reason why we were happy when Amazon opened a DC next to our. Normal ping + 5ms to our DC, this was perfect, instead of ping + 50ms from Ireland.
But as I said, this was long time ago.

The game is in an unplayable state for months now unless you play at some bizarre time like 10am when everyone is working, and nothing is being done.

They can't fix the DDoS and they made no announcement that they are even planning to address this problem long-term. In fact they are DDoSing themselves probably because their servers are too weak and need time to shut down and cool off every 24 hours.

Not to mention that there are like a bazillion hotfix patches every single patch nowadays.

You can't even play the game now even if you want to!

Either refund half the sub cost or give us 15 days free NOW. And come clean about the so-called "DDoS" that conveniently always happens when Japan is awake. Your servers are just bad, stop lying that it's DDoS.

They have never and will never refund your money for a DDOS. if they were to refund you for every second you could not log in, i think ud come out with maybe? 3 minutes of total time? because all a DDOS does is kick u off and make u log in, it does notkick you from the game for hours on end, and im afraid if you think being in a que validates you as being denied play time it doesnt. world hop or DC hop.

What I find very strange is I always get disconnecting symbol only in ARR areas and right after I leave them, I get no bad lag or disconnecting symbols.

Kinda bad when you are in a fight for 16 mins and you wipe because of this stuff or when you have done POTD and you are on floor 187 and wipe because you dc mid run and a pat Murks you. I really love losing 5 hours over this kind of stuff. People saying this is only “two minutes” are either afk in limsa or don’t do time consuming content. Or the fun run I had in the criterion savage dungeons were you also hope you get a full clean run and then this happens. Also untrue it doesn’t sometimes just kick you as you may recall the entire light datacenter was completely busted after a ddos for over 2 hours were you couldn’t even connect too it.

I agree with the title. I want a refund for my monthly subscription or more like you should be giving us a free sub because not being able to do Savage reclears properly is unacceptable (ITS WEEKLY LOOT) Not daily (weekly). I had to do my reclears in pf due to the ridiculous DDoS attacks, which SE is doing very minimal to solve, I would of gotten the proper loot if there was no DDoS.
