Regional Servers? (Opinions please)

Do you think FFXIV would be better with regional servers? In my opinion, I think it would be for the best. Less latency issues and players wouldn't have to use the auto-translator. What are your inputs?

It would be better hands down but the problem is the company isn't going to want to spend the money to put up or pay for new servers for each region also if 2.0 does fix majority of the latency issues then all is fair game. Though honestly I do wish our servers were based in the US.

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: I would rather put up with extra latency then be on a regional server and have no one to play with. Yay, 50ms ping time... I wish someone else was on..... No. The experiment with Ragnarok already caused a lot of problems. Their server is quiet most of the time (good luck to someone there trying to play during non-peak hours). And it removed a fair bit of EU people from non-EU servers (making the EU population on those servers even less).

Regional Servers means Peak-Hour Servers, means if you are not playing during peak hours do not bother to play. Me, I'm here to play. Not complain about ping times. (FYI: I'm one of those people with bad ping times yet I still would not ask for regional servers).

you are playing on an EU server`? mage suggestions in your LS or chose an other LS...

If they did it right they could have physical regional servers but then global logical servers. Then say Aegis is actually made up of two physical computer clusters one sitting in a datacenter in Japan then one in Los Angeles. Clients connect to the server they are closest to then SE has a very fast dedicated line from datacenter to datacenter to connect the two clusters and have them operate as one game world.

Regarding the EU server which we have right now i come to the conclusion that global servers are much better.

global server have the advantage that they are populated around the clock. you can always find groups. right now on the EU server i only can find groups in the primetime between 6pm and 10 pm.. before and after its not that easy anymore.

Sorry to burst your bubble but most people in EU timezones have work from 9-5pm everyday and play on weekends. All global servers do is allow people to consume their lives in a game because there is no "down time" since moving to ragnarok I have found play/life balance which works very well for me as im sure others in the EU have.

We are no longer forced to do endgame at stupid o clock because thats prime time US or JP.

the last thing this game needs is a fractured community, besides regional servers are a step backwards global gaming is the future.

I enjoy the EU server a lot, there's so much going on during the time I'm online and since there are quite a few NA shells too I even have people to do stuff with after normal EU prime time (like at 2-6 am).
I understand however that people like Tonkra with non-regular working hours (like working in the evening and having time to play in the morning) have a hard time finding groups to do content with.

Something else I enjoy about Ragnarok though is how many different nationalities are present
It feels way more international than the "international" server we were on before which mainly had NA and German players and nothing else.
If regional servers went the way of JP, NA, FR, DE and "the rest" I'm not sure if I wanted to pick my according server because if that happened, I'd really only be playing with people from my country which would be a bit boring :/
