yeah let the mages take their weapon out too instead of just standing there

then active mode with PV regen, it's stupid that mage never become "active" in fight

Though my brain's still stuck on the idea of having mannerism overlays for stances and a few emotes in general, I think this could be great. I'd love that Gladiator's stance would be more tense, twitchy, and opportunistic compared to Paladin, who would instead stand taller, prouder, ready without having to be tense.
My only issue with it is a faint annoyance in the back of my head, again, that says it could be better done by not being class specific, as long as the stances can adjust themselves with their weapons. Basically, the standing part of the stance, whether it be cautious and ready, proud and strong, deadly readied, or a sort of trickster's stance. That said, that's even more work just for additional player unique (rather than just job) identity. Even less likely to be done.
My d&d interests are piquing in this. I'd like to see, though its not really a FF sort of thing, but see Mages using their hands to cast magic, rather than a swirling light that surrounds them and then a wave of the hand. Now, granted, that does amuse me when I see my BLM wave his hand and a score of monsters all get blasted at once with Firaga.
But to see the mages using their hand/fingers in casting gestures, before sending out their spell. If they give particular weapons that enhance a spell types effects (see BLM Relic and Flare for instance) that the weapon animation signifies a greater enhancement to the effect (staff pulsing red light, tip flaring brightly for as the spell completes, something to that end)
But I do think jobs should be more unique.
Maybe they already have the intentions to do something?
Added some images and a YouTube link related to FFXI and how they handled animations.
I don't know if Job vs Class animations and Class vs other class animations are gonna happen. Despite my dislike of players deciding what SE's priority lists should be >< that would be ALOT of animation work. Which from many comments i've heard over time, is both time consuming and thus, expencive.
I definately agree that FF14 could benefit alot from more varied animations for combat. 1.0 was rushed. 2.0 Is being Patiently rushed ^^ (they still have a deadline they really want to make.) And i would expect animations to be the time consuming part they might save till later. I just HOPE they do put work into later.
Far too many base class animations are extreamly similar. Job skills are more varied, with a couple using base class animations but DRG for example. Jump and Dragonfire dive may be the same animation, but the effects added to them make it very different. A smart use of time/resources by SE.
Mage classes suffer the most i think, because cast animations seemed so easy to skip cause its finger-waggling.
I would however like to see alot of new combat animations. And is it saves SE some time and resources, atleast let Cross class skills use the origin-class animation and not a Standard "cast with weapon" animation.
Plus i too belive mages should go active mode for combat. Put the MP regen on active too. It really is pointless at this point.
And as an aside, i wouldn't mind the Mage classes getting a Mid-range Ranged auto attack from their weapon either (Possibly weak, but would give magic users who are in that range a real way to get some weapon bonuses like Mog weapons, to proc) You could find some really neat animations for those i'm sure. (MAGIC MISSILE!)
If all things cosmetic were such low priority then you'd have every game look like the original Battlezone.
The nature of MMOs usually means theres always gonna be shifting priorities. Its a low priority if SE thinks it will cost too much time/resources at the moment or a plethera of other conciderations.
Cosmetic or aesthetic, game play or mechanics, lacking a fair amount of any of those can be a hinderance to a good game. If SE thinks that the appeal of combat actions so lacking that it could effect drawing in new players, then i would imagine even a "cosmetic" change could ride up the priority list.
Nothing cosmetic may not ever be on your personal priority list. But SE's list may not be yours either.
(Also if cosmetic wasn't ever high on the priority list, then why did they change the maps so much? they could have opened up Blackshroud but still used the same trees and bushes. Hrmmmmm)
