the most hilarious thing is that some people still manage to defend this, while absolutely any other game doesn't have this problem ANYWHERE near the extent FFXIV has.

Trying to do anything on NA right now is absolutely impossible. It takes me 15 seconds just to get into my own damn house. Imagine if you're trying to run PoTD or literally any player content.

And of course, Yoshi P and Square Enix are glad to take our monthly sub fees anyway. Embarassing.

Too true, I have 2 solo HoH slots at 70th floor, that I basically cannot enter because of these issues.

I felt this last night too. I barely log in nowadays, just to do expert/trial/normalraid roulettes. But I logged in last night, and once again people were just running in place and then "catching up" all at once. I was healing, so I didn't have a crazy rotation or anything, and I didn't want to make my group wait for another healer, so I put up with it. But once we got out, I immediately logged out and watched a movie instead. Then I got into bed at a reasonable hour, went to sleep, and woke up feeling refreshed and happy.

It is very dangerous for Square, from a monetary standpoint, to have a game with so many content lulls and then have connectivity issues on top of it. Because when people who already had nothing to do anyway, but were still online idling or whatever, get booted... they tend to think "oh. well, what was I doing anyway?" and they stay offline lol. That's been my case at least. I log in, wonder why I bothered, and then I watch my ping spike to like 200 so I just log off.

I'm sure YoshiP will waste 15 minutes of the time he has at TGS to tell us nothing can be done. Tangentially, I hope people don't have very high expectations for the LL lol. It's a part one and he has limited time.

Wasn't this already verified on reddit that it was an issue with NTT, Hop nodes that Spectrum (least one ISP) was using? Not something that SE can directly fix anyway.

It was, but the vast majority of consumers are tech illiterate when it comes to stuff like DDoS so its easier for them to tunnel-focus SE with their hatred because its what they're directly interacting with than to do cursory research and learn how to use commands like tracert to see the truth of the situation.

Meanwhile, all SE can do is just take the brunt of the annoyed customers for something they have zero control over, while writing annoyed letters and hope NTT actually does something.

Working in IT myself, I don't envy SE's IT team atm. They're probably internally screaming they can't do anything to stop this, and throwing NTT under the bus in a public statement would likely violate some business contract they have so all they can do is post yet another 'network difficulties caused by DDoS' notification on the lodestone.
