Who plays on an ASUS RoG Ally?

As the title says, who plays this game on an ASUS RoG Ally, a handheld PC?

What are your settings for this game?

I mostly play it docked to a 50 inch 4k tv with an XBOX One Elite controller with chatpad on a custom 25 watt mode where my GPU temps are around 70 degrees with max fan speed since I'm nearly deaf, so fan noise doesn't bother me and I play with a Razor headset too.

While the game looks better in 1080p, the performance is about 30 fps on max settings and if I use the standard laptop settings, it jumps to about 40 fps average. My TV doesn't support HDR and it's on game mode too (RCA Roku TV).

I have tried 720p and the FPS was pretty decent at around 45 fps average on max settings and nearly 60 fps on standard laptop settings. But for some odd reason, ever since the latest patch going back to 7.05, 720p is wonky. Like there is a constant stutter every second no matter what I'm doing, even leaving the game alone and not moving. All other resolutions work fine, so I think it's a bug with the game. Before patch 7.05, 720p looked pretty good with a bit of blurriness set to resolution scaling 99 at max settings, at standard laptop settings, it's looks bad on my tv.

I would like to play as close to 60 fps but it doesn't look good, I'm so used to my desktop PC that's far more powerful (i9 9900k, RTX 3090) but the cost of electricity where I live is very expensive, so I decided to use my Ally full time since Feb and it's been pretty decent so far. What are your settings and even profiles the RoG Ally uses system wide and Windows settings to improve the performance?

Do any of you use a Steam app called Lossless Scaling? I read it can improve FPS and such but does it work with this game on the Ally and what settings do you use on that too?

I use Lossless Scaling app on Guild Wars 2 and it's really good in that game, specially for big city hubs and large scale content like raids, "hunts," and things like that. For example, without Lossless scaling I get like 30fps in large scale events. With Lossless scaling I get 100fps or so. Only issue with Lossless scaling is that is very game specific, in XIV you might see some weird graphical effects if the app doesn't really support XIV that well. I recommend buying the app either way since it's just $10.

This reddit thread should be really helpful to you https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/com...sless_scaling/

PS. I haven't really used it in xiv but I'll give it a try later today. Also, if you get the app, just remember that you need to run the game in Full screen Windowed mode instead of "Full screen." There's no real difference visually between the modes; the main difference is how microsoft windows operating system handles XIV while it's running.

Thanks, this was very useful information and I appreciate it, I have some updates after buying that utility from Steam.

After some tinkering and multiple benchmark runs, I found the settings that work best for me playing on a 60hz 4k tv. I set the game to run max graphics at 900p, windowed mode and lock the frames to 30 fps since the game runs well at those frames and the more stable the frames are, the better Lossless Scaling works. Then the settings I used in Lossless Scaling, I chose Fullscreen scaling mode, LS1 scaling type, left sharpening at default, chose LSFG 2.3 for frame generation and scaling at 2x, enabled VSYNC and left max latency to 1 and I also turned off both performance modes so it actually renders better.

Most of the game including the heavy foliage of Thavnair, the DT jungle zones and more all run good at about 28/56 and in Limsa it dips to about 25/50 but it plays great on my TV like having native 60 fps from the game even though it's being rendered at 30 fps frame capped.

My power settings are 25 watt mode set to 30 boost and 35 max with fans running max and my temperatures are 70 degrees or below since I use the SD card slot and that temperature range is safe for the SD card.

When playing in handheld mode, I simply keep the same settings and set the scaling to 4x to take advantage of the Ally's 120 hz screen and it really runs well. Aside from some light ghosting, flickering and such, it's been pretty good so far, I give it an 7.5 out of 10 experience, this utility is a game changer for the Ally.

One last thing, don't forget to set your 2nd display resolution to 1080p 60hz since it's default at 2160p 29 hz, just select the second screen in the resolution settings and you'll see 1080p option for the desktop. This only applies for those that have the Ally docked and connected to a 60hz 4k tv.

Glad it worked! Make sure to keep checking the steam Lossless Scaling page, if I remember correctly they keep updating the app to make it better; they use some AI-technology to keep improving it.

I have auto update enabled for my steam library, so that's taken care of :3

I certainly look forward to when they implement FSR3 and more I was reading the author was working on. It's only going to improve but it already shows so much promise and I look forward to any updates.
