    Meanwhile this community :

Wow great job guys dawntrail is amazing woooooo!

For the love of anything holy please any kind of standards for once, the amount of things you people tolerate and accept is wild, and yall are the reason why this game is barely growing at all or just being barely stable in population.

The day this game ever goes down the drain a few years from now, yall will only have yourselves to blame.
Not 0 standards, just different than yours who want to be whiny and nitpick about everything you don't like and throw a tantrum when others don't agree.

There are some things in the game I don't like, but giving constructive criticism in a respectful way is the way to do it. Not post that go "OMG STORY SO BAD, EVERYONE SHOULD BE FIRED!!!! WE DEMAND COMPENSATION, I FEEL PERSONALLY HURT BY YOSHI P" Yeah that isn't gonna fly or let people take you seriously.

WoW and Guild Wars are still going strong, despite not being as "big" now. WoW went to hell years ago yet is still continuing on. It's dev team are sexual harassers, but no, Yoshi P's team is the worst because they put out a story you didn't like.... please grow up.

If 1.0, when it was at it's direst can survive, then 7.0 is just fine. The game is doing just fine even if all those who don't like what's going on quit. Yoshi P even said to take breaks and stop subscribing if you want, so yeah... I'm pretty sure the game will be just fine.

I was just clarifying why I had written what I had before you made the post that this was a direct reply to, not further arguing against you. We are quite on the same side in that I too hope that the game will be fine.

But I can not be without genuine concern because there is a difference between 1.0 and the current state of things, and that is the balance in goodwill and confidence that the company still has.

XIV 1.0 was given the benefit of time to improve because of XI and a broad confidence in what SE was capable of at the time. By contrast, today the antics of a company that keeps trying to make for more games that nobody wanted them to make, rather than successful ones, combined with a general suspicion over how they still have a leadership that is all in on NFTs even when that has been almost universally panned by the real gaming audience.

Also, SE almost bankrupted itself in the effort to retain community confidence while they worked to salvage 1.0, including waiving subscription fees entirely for the interim. It is doubtful they would be able to do that a second time, with the tangled web through which FFXIV is cross-funding a lot of their other developments.

And lastly, that was over ten years ago, before the Live Service Model started turning the gaming landscape into a place where even winning the game of the year award doesn't guarantee that a game will not still fail to meet 'expected margins' and get cancelled.

I do get what you are saying and yeah, 10 years ago was a different time. But you also gotta look at today. FFXIV has grown exponentially since Endwalker. It has had the most subscribers it has ever had, even the WoW exodus in 2021 added to that playerbase... Hell, Stormblood wasn't as well received either, but look what happened, we got Shadowbringers and Endwalker, which alot of people praise it for. FFXIV saved SE from financial ruin when it became better thanks to Yoshi P. I really doubt they are going to shut it down just because one expansion received mixed reviews or had a slightly smaller playerbase. Heck, FFXI, which came out in 2002 still has subscribers despite not getting a new expansion for almost a decade now....so yes, I do believe FFXIV will be fine.

    Forced to agree.

I'll confess, I actually fear YoshiP leaving because if that happens it seems pretty likely the Powers That Be would try pushing the game down the F2P route. YoshiP has made it pretty clear that he doesn't support that business model - to quote what he said in an interview:
"F2P is an unreliable source of income predicated on devoting a lot of development resources to monthly consumable or cosmetic items in order to maintain profitability, leaving little time for higher quality story and battle content, and a playerbase which changes dramatically in size and revenue from month to month"

And I'm speaking from experience here myself. I came to FFXIV late 2021 having burnt out on a once decent game that I'd played for 12 years but went down the F2P route and, over time, transformed from a decent, challenging, game into a boring P2W chore that was entirely dependent on selling gambleboxes, expensive item bundles (£300) and repetitive FOMO nonsense.
All at the cost of new content - because the Devs were/are so busy making junk to sell that there was (is) no time to make new MSQ content.

I'd hate to see that happen to FFXIV.

Oh wow, Steam, a platform that most people absolutely hate to play FFXIV through and actively avoid is the way to go for counting the playerbase. It's not like FFXIV has its own launcher that doesn't involve Steam or anything...

Yeah because non steam players are oh so different, are steam players robots and non steam actually human ? stop trolling

Someone doesnt know statistics, but dont worry I will help you

    Statistics :

a fact or piece of data obtained from a study of a large quantity of numerical data.
"the statistics show that the crime rate has increased"

    Its my pleasure.

And yes, steam is a big enough size for a sample.

Yeah you don't know what statistics are. You can't say the numbers are "good enough" when you only accounts to at most 20% of the playerbase.... that's like only looking at the streaming site Tubi to see how popular a show is instead of all of them, like Hulu, Netflix, ect and count them as a whole.
