Private to Free Company

Is there anyway to switch a private house to a free company house? Is there anyway to get the gil back and purchase a new plot to do so if not? I tried asking in support in game and was just given links to things that didn't answer me.

If it's in a ward that's for both individuals and FCs, you can let your plot auto-demolish by not entering the house for 45 days. You then can reclaim 80% of the plot price and the plot becomes available during the next lottery period for everyone to bid on.

You can also relinquish your plot immediately, but wouldn't get any gil back. The plot would once again be available for bidding during the next results period.

Direct answer to your first question is No. Once purchased, the house can't be transferred between individual and FC ownership. It's to help curb abuse of the housing system by those trying to profit off it.

As Ilisidi said, you can get back 80% of the gil paid if you allow the house to auto-demolish but that does require a 45 day wait.

If it was a small house, it would probably be faster for the FC members to earn the gil for another small than to wait for the auto-demo. Everyone could be reimbursed once the original plot auto-demos.

Caution should always be used when entering the lottery, especially if the ward is mixed and not FC only or individual only. There is a confirmation pop-up that will state if the entry will be for the FC or for the player.
