I'm still playing quite happily and looking forward to where they go with the plot hook of the Scions taking ownership of that portal key. I know my data point is just one amidst many here who are unsatisfied, but I thought I'd weigh in.

Oh I mean, I fully believe in the idea that talented coders/artists/designers/etc. are being shuffled around to work on CBU3's other mystery projects at XIV's expense. I just get tired of the (shoddy) argument that addressing something in one area pulls resources from another, which has been leveraged against those of us who are unhappy with the graphics update since day one. The only resource supposedly shared between the battle content team and the art team would be Yoshi P's attention, which at this point is either fully absent from the game, or just not contributing anything positive.
They spent time making a Benchmark 2.0 for DT. They talked about updating the models again for 7.1, this stuff does take up development time and especially resources, if the graphics update didn't exist we probably wouldn't of had the panic buffs in 7.05 for savage due to PCT overperforming because I bet a lot of people who tested jobs were busy testing the graphics update. Yes I do think the graphic update has affected the development of the game and taken time away from the gameplay development, to people who enjoy PVE more than Rping and glamour this will annoy them because it doesn't matter to them. As for the job design team, I don't think theres a large job design team because of all the job design issues and I wouldn't be suprised if they doubled up with the battle content design team, I wouldn't be suprised if CBU3 was spread thin considering they were working on FF16, its PC port and a new game.First of all, as someone active in both the raiding and RP scenes, I can tell you for certain that it's not the "modbeasts" who care about the model changes.
Second of all, believing that the fixes to the graphics update are somehow going to affect gameplay development time is laughable. What do you think, they're plucking devs from the job design team and sitting them down in front of blender?
Yeah, Ion has done a lot of this but I think its also the Blizzard marketing teams fault too. Look at how big they try to make the world first race and the PvP in the game, they try to make it an esport and im guessing Ion decided to listen to only hardcore raiders because Blizzard told him to do that. World First race in XIV is already 20x more niche then the niche WoW one so theres really no excuse for the raiders to have so much sway in the game, I feel like it may be people on the design team being friendly with the JP hardcore raiders leading to this but thats just my tinfoil brain theory.

Oh, if you're saying you wish there hadn't been a graphics update to begin with, that's something we agree onThey spent time making a Benchmark 2.0 for DT. I'm more indifferent to it, I am more upset with the terrible job design and bad story. Playing as a Lalafell all my time in this game I'm not super affected by the graphical update because it wasn't as hard to recreate lalafells in the updated style because they're chibis while the more detailed races got more noticeable effects.
FF14 biggest flaw is when they say its story first and mmo second oh boy they are eating those words in theyre mouth rn. DT story is not good even ARR have more colors in is world building than DT would have. DT is just the dollar store expansion in terms of story. At least contents seem is going the right direction compare to midwalker. So thats good point of this expansion.
I like the idea of the graphical update but how it was handled was poor. I've been playing at 1440p with max settings since ShB and it was pretty glaring how dated certain things were. It was even more poignant when you saw how some people could have 4k textures loaded. The update was sorely needed, I just wish that the update was pushed out in phases to the benchmark so players could see the changes and give feedback before they were pushed to the live game. Granted, they sort of tried doing that, but not even all the graphical updates made it into the first version of the benchmark.
Honestly, I felt this way after Endwalker, especially during the patches. Not that EW was bad, I just think this is a natural reaction to the end of one story + start as another.
"Should" you be excited for a new story? Maybe, maybe not. But new story isn't the old story which attached + drew you into this game, so it makes sense to not care, I don't think that's necessarily the fault of DT's story/etc.
I don't know if I would be playing now in Dawntrail if I didn't have a static to keep me playing through EW raids, tbh.
Actually I was fine with ew 6.0 Story everything after was a copy of ff4 in weird as a filler which many disliked including me. So after 6.x I was like I dont think it can be much worse right? Then it started yoshi telling in a PLL they are not ready for Fan fest was a sign but still hope dies last. First looks been very great but my stomach was like something is not right here. Then second fanfest came with the we never will do it again rule broken fcking limited job. I know there are a small playerbase all 3 years playing bluemage for fun but geez Nonne likes Limits and waiting for 3 years for content. So after seeing how DT is untiö today I have 0 hope in a good BSM adaptation because evtl PET job. Them calling viper exklusive Designer for 14 killed me like cmon you are obvously copyed from 9 .... I tryed to stay positive with thoughts maybe they will surprise us and hell they did. I had no expectations and git dissatisfied anyway that's an achievement I guess
I just reloaded Warframe and started playing again, normally I only do that in the last few weeks of X.5 in the xpac, now I am doing it in 7.0. At the moment I'm just logging on to do my 450/Alliance/house check-in, then it's off to being a space ninja.
