Alternative to female Au Ra?

Will we ever get a version that isn't petite and demure...?

It's been a hot topic since Au Ra were added to the game a decade ago, and everyone is probably sick to death of hearing about their concept art, but... I refuse to let it go, they were so close to (my) ideal! That the devs seemingly found even the much more sensible size difference in this official(!) render insufficient galls me to no end...

Miqo'te players now have a more imposing alternative in the form of female Hrothgar, but short of making as androgynous a male as you can muster (and believe me, I've tried), no such option exists for female Au Ra... In an ideal world, Au Ra would've been given the Hyur treatment of markedly different clans from the start and thus satisfied a wider variety of player preferences but, alas, that was not the case...

Now, I... actually have no clue how they might realistically provide us with this hypothetical alternative, especially since the size difference is cemented in Au Ra lore... besides adding an entirely separate reptilian/draconic race (Meracydian, perhaps?), that is, but I suspect the overlap would have a lot of players think it's a waste of dev time and resources more than anything...

Thoughts? Ideas...?

Honestly, the entire Au Ra race feels half baked. The dudes all walk the tightrope between colossal edgelord and groomer, the chicks seem like carbon copies of each other, even moreso than Mi'qote. I tried to like them, and failed miserably.

If some interns at CBU3 ever get a free few afternoons, they might benefit from writing up a proposal to remake the race from the ground up, or just replace it with something better. I know they couldn't have done this instead of Au Ra due to how Heavensward was in the beginning, but a race of draconic heretics would have been leagues better than what we got.

I like how the female au ra look currently. They are small and cute which if you dont want to be a catgirl you have another choice.Why do we need it to be another big ugly race? You got two now to switch to if you want that,leave the cute ones alone.

Also calling au ra males groomers is wild when you look like you are straight out of certain animes. I find au ra males to be quite handsome.

Something that's held back the creation of more races is body types. Roegs have to be huge, Elezen skinny and tall, etc. And every piece of gear has to fit everywhere on the size sliders. Fixing that would mean changing root parts of the character creator and delving into that spaghetti code. Maybe having a few body shapes to choose from instead of sliders, like the muscliest Elezen being the same as the skinniest Roeg.

You don't see this archetype ("dragon people", even if their lore states otherwise) too often, I think, so I appreciate them on paper. Unfortunately, like you said, execution has left much to be desired...

I... doubt rewriting (outside of giving their counterparts in another reflection a vastly different culture. Voeburt came close, too bad it's gone!) let alone removing them is an option, next best thing would probably be a completely new race like them that (hopefully) doesn't suffer from the same design problems. Otherwise praying the devs implement body types/customization, but unless they retcon the size difference, that wouldn't actually fix my specific issue with them...

Something they might look into, now that all outstanding races have been implemented (to varying degrees), but... I wouldn't hold my breath, they seem constantly swamped working on this or that despite the game's success and income (most of which admittedly probably isn't being invested back into it)

Well, yeah, getting rid of the race when it obviously has its fans is a bad idea, sorry. But the race definitely needs some polish when it comes to the variety of customization options.

I might also be biased, because I love Dragonborn in D&D, and would play such a race in a heartbeat were it added to the game. Still holding out for Mamool Ja...

Supposedly playable Mamool Ja were something the devs actually considered at one point! No idea how they were planning to go about it given how anatomically different they are, a race that can't equip hats, gloves or shoes probably would not have been very well-received lol...
