I'm not sure that's what they were going for.
My interpretation was they were specifically trying to point out how barren of content the new "expansion" is. Specifically the lack of actually new content, not old types with a new coat of paint.
That or to demonstrate how unlike a new player catching up on old stuff, a long-term player doesn't have the luxury of relying on old content for entertainment as they've done it already.
Though your interpretation could also be correct, of course.

You're probably right and I simply overreacted.

Doesn't have to be ARR or Heavensward Relics. But existing deep dungeons, criterion, and field operations for example are still there... and criterion aside people still run the content.

Item Level is only a glorified "key" to unlock access to instances in this game anyway. Whether the content is for lv60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 it really doesn't matter... Every content of a given type follows the same template so closely in this game that if you don't think the existing ones are interesting you're not going to like the new one all that much either.

I never understood this ridiculous notion that content HAS to be current-expansion or it's not worth doing. For what? Mounts and minions are rewards for everything already. Tomestones you have no use for? BiS you don't need for anything unless you're a raider?

I don't disagree that they're taking too long with updates, which haven't been substantial in a while. But the comment dismissing old content as not worth doing prompted me to leave my thoughts.

Rewards are so incredibly inconsequential in this game that the only real weighting factor in what content to run is "how bored will I be without X actions this job will lose by being synced down".
I don't think that old content is not worth doing. I just think, for the price we pay for the releases and the sub, an expansion can't rely on old stuff to keep players busy during a period without a lot of content added, and that's wild to me that is right after a release.

Also because that may work for new or semi-new players because there's a lot to catch up - and thankfully the game keeps old stuff healthy-ish with its level sync and roulettes - Imagine for a veteran who completed everything while it was current content?

I log in daily to cap tomes and collect the remaining few glams for my alt jobs in Vanguard since I'm just missing Aiming, Healing, and Maiming. Then I am only 2 ranks before I get the mount in the PVP battle pass and I'll stop soon since all my alt jobs are maxed in the 3 roles. I just haven't really bothered with the job quests since I'm not too into their final gears.

Usually, I set up mini-goals not related to raiding or Bozja like max my DoH/L jobs over time from lvl 0 to 100 for a few months which is almost done now. Also, I tried IS but bounced off hard since I find the gameplay tiring to collect items.

I did the V&C maps at release so I look forward to them each new patch for new rewards.

My irl friendgroup makes a party of 3-4 players, and we try to do unsynced + undersized runs of older extremes and savages. There's fights where it works and others where it absolutely doesn't, but it's fun figuring it out either ways. Been farming Zodiark lately.

Here's what I've been up to..

    >Weekly tome cap, takes a couple days of roulettes.
    >Weekly savage book collecting. Can't seem to lot over 20.
    >crafting here and there to rebuild food and pot stocks
    >sometimes doing some maps with the wife to try to make some Gil
    >bidding and losing on houses. Trying to upgrade the FC from a medium to a large and the personal from a small to a medium or large

    That about sums it up.

I log in for reclears on a tuesday and then do a frontline. I got lucky with loot so I'm BiS, so I don't need any tomes - and there's nothing else fun to spend them on so no point capping. I also don't personally like any of the glams on offer from any DT content so no need to rerun dungeons like I would have in previous expacs. I'm saving up the crafters questlines for something to do in the inevitable content drought sometime down the line. I felt disconnected from the msq [to put it nicely] so I also haven't even been spending any time just flying around the new zones looking at stuff and imagining all the little lore possibilities - because DT gave me nothin'! When I think back and compare that to the hours I spent obsessively following the void ark around tracking it's movement thru the different zones, or comparing maps between the 1st and the source and how enriching that was - even if I was just making my own fun, I haven't felt inclined to do any of that this time and it's a shame! I hope the new 24 man stuff - the ff11 raid and whatever the hell the savage 24 man content is gonna be end up being fun - I would like to have a reason to play!

There's PVP, but I think just doing the same CC over and over gets old fast and the larger modes are brutally imbalanced to be enjoyable.

Everything else I can think of specifically in 7.0 sounds like a chore, like leveling other jobs or FATE farming, and I say that fully knowing that what is engaging may be different from one player to another, but even at a casual level, 7.0 is objectively barren of things.

I do say to exclude old content at the thread's title because while It's still fun to revisit things or tackle stuff you never touched, I don't think this "Oh there's a lot of stuff to do, go complete ARR relics!" should be what makes up for the lack of stuff available at an early stage of an expansion's launch. Those ideally should have a healthy amount of content on their own - going back for old stuff should be just a plus.

I do wonder if they absolutely think the formula is fine as it is? I can't be the only one thinking that early in an expansion launch is a critical moment to retain more players - and I'd figure they could introduce at least something else midway in 7.0.5, like the Field Operation or a Deep Dungeon.

TLDR: I think XIV has a problem of available engaging content at an early expansion's lifecycle.
XIV has always had a big gaping hole on midcore content, especially repeatable midcore content. Field Operations could classify somewhat, at least Eureka (Bozja wasn't even midcore except for its instanced duties), but those are localized in time. There is no standard/classic pve content that's midcore, beyond perhaps alliance raids when they're challenging and even then, it's not that repeatable, at least a lot less than daily dungeons and whatnot.

PvP definitely fills a niche if you're into it. It definitely saved the game for me in Endwalker.

The other problem is that there has never been anything before x.3 before, or at best the start of relic weapons a bit earlier. They still count on players still consuming the expansion's content I think, before giving us more.

LOLwhat? No it didn't. When ARR finished, the only thing we had to do for the first few months was run Wanderer's Palace for tomes and do Coils 1-5. Mor Dhona was a series of tents and I remember standing around not having much else to do except show off my Darklight gear. There was the base ARR relics, true - and they're about the same level as engagement as the current role quests are, all told.

Then Extreme Garuda, Titan, and Ifrit were released in 2.1 , along with LotA, and a few more level 50 dungeons so we finally had something else to run besides WP.

Anyway, to answer the OP's question, I am grinding out trusts while leveling my DPS classes.
