They scout and conduct hunt trains. The majority of people just show up to these and fight the hunts, but it is some players organizing it all.

Large-scale raids such as Baldesion Arsenal and Delubrum Reginae (Savage) are organized by players via discord. They announce the event, start the alliance party and do voice calls for mechanics. If you are good at listening to callouts, you can get through the whole raid without dying.

The world first savage race is technically player-run because Frosty always kept track of it and SE acknowledged it (and used to send stuff to the winners). It's a website (google it!).

Square Enix themselves have a deep dungeon scoreboard at https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...g/deepdungeon/ but it's not player-run. SE makes scoreboards for many things, including PvP and the Firmament when it was current, and run various contests themselves for PvP, art, etc.

It may fall into RP but it could also be regarded as separate - people make venues and do Bard music concerts (or at least just play at aetherytes and gather an audience).

Also this. I've seen my FC run glamour contests and things like that.

Yeah the Baldesion/Delubrum runs are something I really gotta get involved with. And that's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for: just a big social atmosphere within the game.

Savage/Ultimate World's First races are in a weird spot though. Only one every few months, then it's done. I was thinking more casual competitions -- something like a local bowling league only whatever the FFXIV equivalent is.

Aethercon is probably the closest to what I'm looking for: accessible to the public, good social ground, fun ways to play the game. That sort of thing.

To me, the big social atmospheres in the game are:
    • Hunt trains and S ranks (think /shout chat) or the close-knit communities that organize them.
    • Alliance raids.
    • Large-scale raids (BA, DRS, CEs, the upcoming Savage Alliance Raid and other large-scale raids).
    • Field Operations (Eureka, Bozja, Shades' Triangle)
    • Content like Ishgard Restoration or what Cosmisc Exploration promises to be.
    • Collecting things when they are new (FOMO) ie. lots of people farm blue mage spells on release day, lots of people farmed S ranks on Dawntrail release so you were doing it "with them" and saw the same people across data centers, etc. Shout chat tends to come naturally with this.
    • Large-scale FATE bosses such as Odin, Foxy Lady, Ixion, Archaeotania, Formidable, Chi, Daivadipa, Ttokrrone, Mica, which again are most popular on release (FOMO) and especially social then with 600+ people there.
I know I've skipped all the RP, glam, venue and Bard stuff here, because that's not my thing these days. But obviously those things are a massive part of the game as well.

Those are good fun. Kinda surprising how Hunt Trains are the only thing on that list organized by players, outside of RP events. Baldesion/Delubrum runs count for that too.

Actually it's crazy just how many RP events people run. Not just the nightclub stuff, but fight club or market day or whatever. Those are fun and all but they manage to pull in so many people without actually playing the game. Not that that's a bad thing, socialization is good and all.

FFXIV needs more competition tho lol
