Lol, not sure why people think this is good or normal. They were doing FF16 and its DLCs simultaneously with Endwalker and that expansion cut corners left and right and had the least midcore content yet.
Dawntrail's just launched and people already have nothing fun to do - it literally didn't include any new types of content and what we did get is as formulaic as ever. That's not even counting the worst story they've ever delivered - don't pretend it's good - Yoshida himself called reception mixed and said they've "failed" Wuk Lamat as a character.
Reminds me of a pre-DT (media tour I think?) interview when Yoshida was asked why dungeons are so formulaic (3 bosses with trash hallways in between) - and he answered it's easier for junior Devs to jump in and follow the pattern.
It does feel like the game is in maintenance mode already. Tbh I'm sad, but I'm kinda of at peace with it - I can pretend it went out with a bang at EW launch
Ff16 started development during heavensward lol.
Are you trying to say that shadowbringers was terrible?
And again with the maintenance mode garbage. Anyone who thinks this game is in maintenance mode has never actually played a game in maintenance mode.
The doomsaying is really bad on the forum at the moment, many people don't seem to know that they always start working on their next expansion almost as soon as they launch one. Yoshi-P has already said he wants to change things up in future expansions, to make FFXIV's formula less predictable in some ways, we don't know what ways those will be or if they are going to be for better or worse, but Dawntrail has given them a point to jump from from a technical aspect. If we start to see less and less content with shorter and shorter stories then you know the game isn't being reinvested in like it used to be, but we're not even close to that point yet. They have had one disappointment (from a fan perspective, not a business one) and suddenly the sky is falling for people. I get that people love the game and are emotionally invested in what happens with it, but it's a bit much to jump to the worst conclusions because of a misstep.
Confirmation that FF14 dev team members migrated to ff16 was sometime on 2022.
Miss that one period in time when it was a non stop barrage of banger after banger. Too bad the horrendous current day practices don't allow for that anymore.
Was Shadowbringers MSQ terrible? Absolutely not.
Was a lot of the design decisions that started in ShB that has been carried through to DawnTrail that people are finally realizing isn't so great? Yes.
While it isn't maintenance mode, it doesn't quite feel like the devs are evolving or experimenting. Everything has been quite cookie cutter for the last 3 expansions. And again with the maintenance mode garbage. Anyone who thinks this game is in maintenance mode has never actually played a game in maintenance mode.
