Lol, not sure why people think this is good or normal. They were doing FF16 and its DLCs simultaneously with Endwalker and that expansion cut corners left and right and had the least midcore content yet.

Dawntrail's just launched and people already have nothing fun to do - it literally didn't include any new types of content and what we did get is as formulaic as ever. That's not even counting the worst story they've ever delivered - don't pretend it's good - Yoshida himself called reception mixed and said they've "failed" Wuk Lamat as a character.

Reminds me of a pre-DT (media tour I think?) interview when Yoshida was asked why dungeons are so formulaic (3 bosses with trash hallways in between) - and he answered it's easier for junior Devs to jump in and follow the pattern.

It does feel like the game is in maintenance mode already. Tbh I'm sad, but I'm kinda of at peace with it - I can pretend it went out with a bang at EW launch

Ff16 started development during heavensward lol.

Are you trying to say that shadowbringers was terrible?

And again with the maintenance mode garbage. Anyone who thinks this game is in maintenance mode has never actually played a game in maintenance mode.

The doomsaying is really bad on the forum at the moment, many people don't seem to know that they always start working on their next expansion almost as soon as they launch one. Yoshi-P has already said he wants to change things up in future expansions, to make FFXIV's formula less predictable in some ways, we don't know what ways those will be or if they are going to be for better or worse, but Dawntrail has given them a point to jump from from a technical aspect. If we start to see less and less content with shorter and shorter stories then you know the game isn't being reinvested in like it used to be, but we're not even close to that point yet. They have had one disappointment (from a fan perspective, not a business one) and suddenly the sky is falling for people. I get that people love the game and are emotionally invested in what happens with it, but it's a bit much to jump to the worst conclusions because of a misstep.

I could've sworn they recently talked about having some staff issues by not having as many people as they'd like, and given how Dawntrail came out to very mixed reviews, I don't know if they really should be "challenging themselves" when they seem to be currently struggling a bit with what is already placed in front of them. Although I am curious what this unannounced, "small-scale" project they are undertaking is. Hopefully they don't force themselves into a constant stream of crunch time situations from taking on too many things at once and then trying to juggle all of them with potential decreases in overall quality in an attempt to meet all the deadlines.

It’s not surprising that they are working on multiple projects.
A small scale project could be a remaster of something.

Nevertheless it’s starting to feel like they are stretched too thin with all that work.
I fear (and at least for me it seems like it) that FF14 is starting to get the short end of the stick.
It’s a game that sells anyway so the good devs do the other projects and the inexperienced or „bad“ ones work on FF14 with Yoshida not knowing where to look first.
They are already extremely slow with implementation of content (hairstyles from contests anyone?) so that might go in a bad direction.

Let’s see how that will go.
They failed with the story. That was never as divisive and mixed as this time and completely unpolished.
I wonder how their status in the eyes of the players will change if other things like field content or cosmic exploration are under expectations.

Of course everything could go well but that’s going to be a hard undertaking.

As someone who usually is in the project management position with my own projects in between no it’s not just one at a time, you are correct with that.
But multiple projects are almost always going to be slower than concentrating on one at a time.
It’s all a question of the project management and how it handles the timeline for the groups or people.
Some can be left alone mostly, some can handle multiple things and others need a nodge from time to time.
Sometimes stuff doesn‘t go right and throws your time management out of the window, etc.
Multiple projects can escalate that whole process.
So no, multiple projects CAN impact a product from quality to project time and if your team is spread too thin that CAN lead to problems.
They get quite the feedback in FF14 that lives of them implementing or strengthening things resulting from it.
It’s a living process while developing the planned content parallel.

That’s also why I have so much respect for Yoshidas work. HE IS a good producer.
I think people have every right to question how their favorite MMO is going to be handled with that news.

Honestly the lack of ear movement bothers me more. I had pet rabbits and how they position their ears is the most prominent and expressive form of body language they have.

Confirmation that FF14 dev team members migrated to ff16 was sometime on 2022.

Miss that one period in time when it was a non stop barrage of banger after banger. Too bad the horrendous current day practices don't allow for that anymore.

This is the factual truth if you actually read the credits.

Many veterans are just "supervisors" on FFXIV now, so they can still chip in or oversee everything and make sure it goes right, but they are primarily making sure the newer employees are doing it correctly and the way that they would and training them.

Likewise, veterans that still work a lot on FFXIV were "supervisors" on FF16.

When we talk of new hires here, though, we are talking since Heavensward. They started moving people over to other projects as far back as Heavensward, so many of the newer employees were being trained in Stormblood and working on Stormblood and continued to.

They've continued to train people since then as well because I've seen it discussed in detail in the lodestone blog.

With how formulaic the patch process is I think it'd make more sense to train them through it, at least.
The job advert for content designers literally said "design a sample dungeon that is in the same style as the dungeons in FFXIV and lasts about 20 minutes" and said to make it the same difficulty as current FFXIV dungeons.

So they aren't allowed to go too wild with it or make it ultimate difficulty or something like that. From the moment of applying they're asked to follow the formulas.

One may be the rumored FFT remake, they've worked with Matsuno before and it's 100% in their wheelhouse.

It will also probably suit them better, as FFT may not suffer from the pacing and game world issues of other CBU3 games.
