Their team has grown a lot over the years though. Obviously they have been hiring and training people. They have said at this point they have a lot of people working for them that were just players of the game beforehand, which is natural not only for a franchise that has gone on this long but especially for a live service game that has gone on this long.
I remember reading that most of the FF16 team actually disbanded, probably before it even released, since the game was finished. They only had a small amount of people remaining for the patch content, so most likely the rest of them would need new projects. They were even close enough to finishing that the original release date for FF16 was much earlier until covid interfered, so they may have had an abundance of people looking for a new project even earlier than that.
So... we aren't getting those Viera Hats, are we?
ngl this does leave a sour taste after their last interview was a barrage of "yeah we would work on it but we got no staff *shrug*"
But at the same time I can't blame them after 11years of the same game, I also feel fairly "meh" about the current ff14 state as well so I'm secrently hoping they are working on the next title, an action-mmorpg maybe? /chuckle
"Challenge themselves" then they can stop right now since they utterly fail with Dawntrail. FF16 was good but even though the quality standard has been lowered by a lot with the latest entries, "good" is not enough for a final fantasy title at least for me.https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-1...-game-project/

By "utterly fail," you mean have a retention rate right on part with every other expansion alongside the highest active player population in the game's history (except for the brief super-spike when the "WoW exodus" occurred). Yeah, such a mega-fail. (/s)
That...honestly would explain a lot of the commentary on this forum...Do you all just work on one thing at your jobs? It's like you guys have no concept of what working is like.
<sarcasm>
Oh no! A business unit of a major corporation is working on more than one project at a time! It's almost like they want to put out other content in order to make more money.
It's almost as if Square Enix is embracing its AAA game company status. I'm so proud. No longer is Square Enix a small indie game developer.
</sarcasm>
Yeah left and right its "we dont have the ppl even if we wanna spent the money/time!" or "we only can do X if we scarify Y!" and then they do that. Like at least SOME more ppl, some small team just for glamour and engine stuff, for the 2nd ex dungeon or updating old stuff, but no... lets make 3 other games with 1 being ok and 2 most likely fail.
Because FFXVI was such a smashing success...
