We all know Square has the technology to open DC travel to all regions, and they already did so with Oceania.
Recently, in gamescon, someone asked Yoshi-P when will he open travel between NA and EU, and he said he's waiting for the community to greenlight it. Here is the clip about it https://x.com/MysteriousRyan/status/1827803223970746441
It may come with its own issues such as language barriers and also the war between macros and waymark dance in PF. But we've already seen NA and EU players play together; and honestly, we both have similar gaming cultures overall.
Many players who reside in EU also play in NA because they have friends there and vice versa. People can travel too to different regions but may be hesitant to change their regions in XIV because they have already established themselves in a certain region.
So am making this post so we can give the greenlight for SE to open up travel between EU and NA.
Main arguments so far:
1. Aether will be flooded! EU will end up dying, because all the players will want to raid on the big shiny raid hub known as Aether, just like what happened with other NA datacenters!
The reason why other NA datacenters died and went to Aether, because the jump from Primal to Aether is not any different. At the end of the day, you will have the same hours, same ping, same everything; you're just in Aether. EU has an opposite peak time to NA; when it's peak times in NA, EU is already sleeping, and vice versa. Don't forget that EU players will also have 200+ ping if they played in NA, I can assure you they won't abandon EU for good. The comment on peak times is especially important here, we EU/Asian players sometimes are unable to do certain content because it's not NA peak hours (older alliance raids, older exploration zones), and have no option but to sometimes stay a little bit up, or just get lucky and wait for people to magically do the content we want to do at a reasonable time for us. Statics and PF raiding can also be a problem, this is especially true if you want to tackle legacy ultimates, it's sometimes harder if you're unable to raid on peak hours. If we're able to access EU datacenters from NA, it will be very helpful for us. Now, this will probably lead to the following question:
2. Well, if you're an EU player, then why are you playing on NA?
Because the people who introduced FFXIV to me were from NA, so naturally, I went to NA to play with them. Thankfully, there're many EU/Asian players on NA with the same experience. It's very easy to meet people all over the world on the internet, we can't just not end up befriending someone from an opposite timezone, and of course we would wanna hang out with them, which brings in the issue of "If I play on NA, then I'll play with friends, but I'll miss out on peak hours". I think having the option to go to EU would really help on this, we get to stay on the same datacenter as friends, but can also access peak hours.
