Why is FFXIV using rubber bullets in the wild west?

I didn't like how juvenile and immature the Dawntrail story was, so I guess that took my attention away from this for a while, but now that I think about it, seriously... what the heck?

I can't even describe how poorly I think of that zone and its people for settling their duels with.... Rubber bullets....

In fact, it's so embarrassing I don't think I've even heard of a case of people doing that IRL throughout history, let alone a video game.

My guess is they wanted to keep it at minimal considering later you have corrupted police killing citizens unprovoked

It is a complete joke. Deadly monsters roaming about the lands but let's load up rubber bullets because we're friendly cowpoke.

How would anyone put that in and not feel self regret at how laughably bad that is.

It really feels like some weird corporate decision forced into the scene. It was so jarring and out of place.

This is a game that has dealt with brutal exploitation and mistreatment of refugees, racism and xenophobia, colonization and occupation, twisted religious orders screwing over the people, the mass execution of everyone in the Scion headquarters (with guns, no less!), political betrayal, people being turned into monsters against their will, people being eaten and crushed by giant monsters (even if bloodless it's still a lot), an enemy officer shooting himself in the head rather than surrender to us, and so on and so forth.

Then we get to Dawntrail and it's like "nooooo, we can't show the Wild West people being too mean to each other! There may be bandits, but we can settle our differences by dueling with rubber bullets!"

are you KIDDING me?!? Were they trying to make sure this story could air on network television during the 4Kids block in 1998 in the time slot after Pokemon? TF is this squeaky-clean sanitized rubber bullets garbage? Let the two idiot NPCs shoot each other with real bullets if they want to so badly. They live in a world with magical healing powers. Chances are they'd both be fine, if not need some downtime after that ordeal.

It has been a weird jump on the world taking itself seriously and understandably, in a complex adult manner.

To rubber bullets and tribes solving long wars over a dish of as one forum member aptly said "Skibidi pibil". Imagine the dragons and Ishgard doing that, or Garlemald and the nations they conquered.
My tinfoil hat theory is that's also why nearly all humanoid fate mobs run away now instead of being killed on the spot like all other mobs. Maybe it's just multiple writers smacking things on the wall, because suddenly we had dead mamool ja cenote babies, and happy choir music while we were building a train bomb? The script was all over the place and oddly rushed, which is odd because I thought they were rushing Endwalker into one instead of two expansions because of this? I have no idea why they didn't take their time with the script and polish.

Don't get me wrong, a world of happy happy joy joy is good and all, but the worldbuilding wasn't like that at all from ARR until now. Something to look at in the oncoming patches if the theme continues, and oh, just in case look if Square Enix publishes anything or markets a big release out of nowhere that isnt FFXIV, and might or might not have Yoshi P's name tagged onto it. *Tinfoil hat on*

Who decided that? Who said the first part of a new story shouldn't be taken seriously or shouldn't be good? It's a bad story writing, plain and simple, and these are merely excuses to cover it.
