The Baitbox for fishing and how to fix it.

I want to offer a simple solution to the fishing tackel problem. it was so obvious.

According to the Eorzea database there are now currently 104 different Baits in the game

and there is one huge unused inventory space



Correct, the Key Item tab, there is never a situation in the game where you would ever need that much space for Quest items, simply make the two unused inventory spaces to contain Fishing Tackles only

The key items are not "real" inventory – you can't put things in there, you can't take them out, you can't rearrange them. They only exist because your current quest status tells the game that you are carrying the item, and it will vanish if you abandon the quest.

The space only exists because of the layout of the inventory window versus how many tabs are actually available.

Also, while it takes some amount of deliberate scheming to do so, it is entirely possible to be carrying enough key items to require all three pages:

(I need to do a follow-up on that one; Dawntrail gave me more ammunition with three-item sidequests and I need to see if I can fill the third page yet...)

There is also never a situation in the game where you need to have all 104 of them in your inventory at once.

3 baits for Ocean Fishing, ~5 for the current expansion, the trusty ol' Versatile Lure, and then a few more slots if you're trying to go for a Big or Fabled Fish.
Add the 2 baits for those 2 S Ranks in ARR that require hooking a specific Big Fish as well.
Unless you play XIV just to fish and are juggling 30 different Big Fish windows at once, you never need more than a quarter of that.

Still, it is possible within the bounds of the game, so it is not unreasonable to allow the UI space to display all of those items and allow the player to interact with them when required for quests. It doesn't change the fact that the spots don't exist as real inventory and cannot be used to store real inventory items.

The point is that those inventory slots don't actually exist. They're there to visualise internal quest flags.

Do you mind showing off your inventory to show us why you need so many slots for bait? I can't check your lodestone profile's Achievements page to check the number of Big Fish you've obtained, which is odd considering that you have the achievement for doing 2000 Mentor Roulettes in your signature.

I dont participate in fishing beside leveling the job, requiring extra inventory space for all the different baits is one of the main reason for that.

Then you don't need 104 different baits in you inventory. All you need is the Ocean Fishing bait and the Versatile Lure.

There is no reason to have all 104 baits in your inventory at one time. If you want to go for Big Fish achievements, pace yourself and try and work on them a few bait types at a time.
Then, when you're done with all of the Big Fish that require that specific bait, You never need that type of bait again. (Unless it's Wildfowl Fly or Butterworms, and even then only if you're someone who wants to spawn S ranks.)
