The healer meta has never been healthy nor good for the game, and neither is replacing it by another pivotal mandatory role/job (drk). It's not fun as far as I'm concerned. What the DRK and 3 other people do, they don't need the rest of the team to achieve, they'll clean up everything before anyway.
It's boring and doesn't reward skill expression a lot.
Dark Knights get countered by Reapers.

Yeah in this meta it's all about one GCD bursting. Dark Knight enables that on a large scale, but when we've done 72-man queue syncs each party can coordinate a kill every 10-ish seconds.
And for macro play, any class can command and lead. Dark Knight just has the easiest time doing it.

I’ve had the pleasure (/s) of playing at least 10 games in the past 2 days at different times without any premade or good DRKs and ya’ll know what happened? “Nothing.”
Nothing because people were too scared to engage in team fights. The tanks were too scared because they’re too squishy when 10+ enemies are simply attacking the closest target. Barely anyone was playing melee because the tanks couldn’t stay alive. Ranged were just running away whenever their team got pressured. So in the end, you have a stalemate and a few stragglers getting picked off. Literally little to no action in a pvp mode. People get the objective, then run away. No pinches were happening. No team big fights were happening. Boring.
That’s what people can expect from a no DRK salted earth FL. Boring games. Yes, bad players will die less. People will all just play ranged because nobody will initiate and nobody will play tank or melee because of easy pickings. Anybody that plays a tank will get ripped apart because the biggest dmg reduction is taking 0 dmg from people that are running or guarding and that’s now “gone.”
So many players don’t realize that DRK excels at doing 2 things in FL. Initiating and tanking dmg. Without tanks, melee can’t do their job properly because they’re gonna be busy trying to stay alive. Without tanks and melee, ranged are just gonna run whenever a fight happens because they’re squishy to begin with.
If anyone has any ideas to remove salted earth yet still maintain a good balance of roles (tanks, melee, ranged), and at the same time not ruining Crystalline Conflict, I’m all ears. And don’t say that everybody won’t play ranged because we’ve seen it happen many times before, prior to EW PvP. The only ones playing melee or tanks were premades that had pocket healers. The other players playing melee or tanks usually ended up feeding.

DRKs are more like midges to me (those flies that bite you not small people lol). It’s super annoying, but it’s not like you’re gonna die from it, just move away from them lol
Playing tank/melee, you basically have to have the mindset of hit big and run away, over and over again. Some classes can stand their ground and tank (Gunbreaker with Nebula, Dragoon with Horrid Roar, etc.) but yeah you really do need team support in order to stay in the fight and soak damage.
If they remove Salted Earth that's what will need to happen: premade parties will be one to two melees with a healer, maybe a Bard for the damage reduction & healing of Paean, that lead the charge instead of saying "burst now." Which honestly sounds fun to try now tbh!
