    I disagree. It's not laziness.

    I see it as a reflection (heh) of the many different cultures across Etheirys and also the result of localization team inserting a bit of their own creativity and fun into the game.

    FFXIV is all over the map in terms of time periods. We have medieval cities next to societies with automobiles, flying airships (with cannons, and missiles), and trains all built on the ruins of empires who had achieved sentient AI, bioengineering, and spaceflight among other things. That is not even taking into account any linguistic cross pollination which might happen from the occasional visitors who pop in from another reflection.

    The common tongue of Etheirys would be a hodgepodge in an even greater manner than English is. It's never bothered me.

    In fact, FFXIV has taught me several words I now use in my own vocabulary. 'Shite' and 'wending' immediately come to mind.
