Localization talk?! Oh heck yeah.
Here's a great read on that.

it/its - 14 accessibility is bad, ease of access is not accessibility, jobs are boring. Transphobia ruins real attempts at criticism and it's whack.
I disagree. It's not laziness.
I see it as a reflection (heh) of the many different cultures across Etheirys and also the result of localization team inserting a bit of their own creativity and fun into the game.
FFXIV is all over the map in terms of time periods. We have medieval cities next to societies with automobiles, flying airships (with cannons, and missiles), and trains all built on the ruins of empires who had achieved sentient AI, bioengineering, and spaceflight among other things. That is not even taking into account any linguistic cross pollination which might happen from the occasional visitors who pop in from another reflection.
The common tongue of Etheirys would be a hodgepodge in an even greater manner than English is. It's never bothered me.
In fact, FFXIV has taught me several words I now use in my own vocabulary. 'Shite' and 'wending' immediately come to mind.

It's also worth looking into stuff like this whenever you're worried about "brain rot"
https://medium.com/not-lost-in-trans...ok-18dc03e4298
It's always existed, funny memetic slang is a normal in group out group via joke feature of language and culture itself
And the majority of Old English-esque fiction is never about historical accuracy of speech but the illusion of it in a way that is convincing to enough people in modern times based on tropes they are familiar with, which changes from generation to generation depending on what they were exposed to
And if no one makes creative decisions about these kind of things then no one gets exposed to anything

They might not have used "twelvemonth" before, but I'm pretty sure they've used "twelvemoon" in that case because I'm sure I've heard it before, and it doesn't feel out of place regardless.
I'd love to agree with OP, but they called it "Etheirys".![]()
Oh my god I can't believe I didn't think to look this up. You're right.

It's like month and moon is interchangeable in this game or something.
