It's called a year. Everyone in the entirety of Etheirys calls it a year. It has never been called a "Twelvemonth", that word has literally never appeared, even once, in the entirety of Final Fantasy XIV- I CHECKED.

So we not only have a writing team that don't know the story they're writing on, but the new translation team is just making things up.

How little pride in one's own work must someone have to get so many things wrong? How are fanfiction writers doing better research than people being paid to work on the actual game? They don't have to know each and every line in the game by heart, but you'd think they'd have looked up basic things like time terminology.

I thought writing outside the MSQ would have been safe, but good gods, this is ghastly.

It is a word, but it is one that has never been used in more than 10 years of this game's writing. Every single character has always just called that amount of time a year, therefore using it completely breaks the continuity of terminology.

I know what it means but it doesn't fit.

I think the whole point is that the lead dev has pulled you into his realm, he is not Eorzean or even of Ethyrs, it would make less sense if he spoke as they do. Further he is talking to you the player, not you the WoL.

But for me it's fun. I like learning new words, the feeling of "Oh, English can do that." or "That's really not made up?" is enjoyable to me.

Yes, I know it's an ancient variant of "Diverse" and being used here in the same way. It's also, just like "Twelvemonth", never been in this game's lexicon before.
Did they legit just run the dialogue through an AI "Oldifier" without checking if it made any sense in universe?
