i unsubbed a few days ago my sub runs out tomorrow i've been subbed nonstop since 2011 dawntrail was the worst expansion for this game and its killed all joy i get

got a house i spent millions on decorating am gonna lose it but i no longer care, i doubt i will be returning next expansion dawntrail seems to be the new direction the game is going and i dont want to be part of it. its been a good 12 or so years but the fun has to end sometime. this will be my last post on these forums and it feels good

It's basically what I did back in December , got burnt out last raid tier and needed a break and was like screw it I don't care about my house and it's felt liberating ever since . I just threw all my items between my apartment and fc house . Now my sub ended yesterday (gamecard expired) and probably won't be back for a while as I realized I really don't care for the raiding in this game and until we get cool bozja/eureka type zones again . Only reason I subbed in EW as long I did compared to stb/shb was because I had a house and a static

Honestly just taking breaks is a good thing , it's something I've always done since 2.0s release . Knowing how patches cycles works in this game is a blessing as I mainly do msq/pvp series/shared fates and level a few jobs the first 2 months of expansion then unsub until something cool comes along . I also have a habit of turning off auto renew immediately after I sub , it give me a good sense if I need to take a break near the end of the month and start looking for other games to play in the mean time . This time my break will probably be alot longer then usual lol

Sub runs out sometime next week. Didn't even manage to level all classes to 100 like I usually do.

I might come back if the XI raid or the new Bozja zone look interesting but not holding my breath.

Honestly? The more I play the game, the more dissapointed I feel, because I keep thinking how they'll eventually solve something just to never have it adressed again.
It made me notice that this game is like the Blumhouse Entertainment of MMOs, they're charging us a monthly sub for the spectacle while investing as few resources as they can. We spend hours upon hours interacting with text boxes in what is basically a Visual Novel with extremely long pauses between events (as in, walking empty spaces), just to be rewarded with the spectacle that are dungeons and trials, we're chasing that carrot. The game is carried hard by Soken's music and the visuals, especially now that the story decayed. Say whatever about the decline of WoW, but it's ironic how it's more of a game than FFXIV.

There's plenty of story heavy games out there, including some FF ones, that have much more gameplay despite having extremely long cutscenes. I'm getting older every day, I have to be selective over what games I play because time is something I won't get back. In the 3-4 hours I take walking from aether current to aether current, from NPC to NPC, just to unlock a Dungeon or Trial, I could be engaging with the mechanics and story of other game that respected my time. I find it sad that I'm getting more enjoyment per time spent on free games like Zenless Zone Zero and Once Human, and spending what I pay for the XIV sub in this third world economy nets me a couple indies that make me feel bad I'm paying so little for something that has more effort put in than this game.

It's a combination of a lot, but it's just loneliness, boredom, and a bunch of things in this game that just aren't for me.
Got a house that I had help decorating to my heart's content but no one around to admire, so I don't mind losing it, if it were an FC house so I could use subs maybe I'd change my tune for it.
I don't Extreme or Savage without friends, I mean no disrespect to raiders but unless it's something like Tsukuyomi amounts of rewards, I don't feel enticed to play it cause my brain just thinks "Eh, the items will get power crept anyways"
Things like Mahjong, I'd rather play in Mahjong Souls, something dedicated to it, y'know?
So join an FC to get people to do things with, but the last I was in is slowly fading and dying away and the ones around are just land, with all the social stuff in the game just feeling like a waste of time when Discord does it all anyway.

It feels like I drew a short straw on servers and ended up on one where everyone is insular.

Also, I didn't enjoy Dawntrail, so I got way more burnt out than usual and don't even have the spark to get excited about the next few patches, but that feels like small fries in comparison.

I got tired of all the jobs I used to enjoy getting streamlined to shit. I didn't even get to enjoy VPR for long before they ruined that one too. I got all my jobs to 100 so now I'm just waiting for my sub to lapse at this point.

Because while the content outside of MSQ is fine, the MSQ is my motivation to play the game. Dawntrails story felt like an insult, so much so that I don't want anything to do with it. I'm actually playing War Within at the moment. I swore I'd never play another wow expansion after being burned so many times but have found myself enjoying it so much more than DT!

December/january ? Dude I hope it releases in max 2 months. The xpac has been out for 2 months already, I hope they don't make it a trend to do 6-months wait times. It was dry enough already with 3-4 months patch cycles.

This is what they mean with "You should still enjoy other games.".

To be fair, some indie dev can shit out the whole of dawntrail including all the patches in half the time SE did. God even Guild Wars 2 which I started playing in response to Yawntrail shits out expansions on a yearly basis now.

I was unsubbed for about 2 weeks (first time letting it run out since I started playing a couple years ago.) I was traveling, and I had a new card, and just couldn't bring myself to care enough to update my info on mogstation. The combination of the graphics update changing how my character looks fundamentally and the MSQ being (to me) extremely subpar in writing quality, I just didn't feel like sticking around. Felt absolutely no qualms about being unsubbed during that time and didn't plan on signing up again unless I really needed to post in the forums (i.e., if the new graphics patch doesn't fix issues like skin gloss, feature shape changes, etc)
BUT! My partner got sick and was distancing from me, so when he asked if I wanted to run the Eden raids with him on his alt, I did re-sub for another month lol. I'm always happy to run old content with my loved ones who play, so. I'm hopeful that the upcoming graphics patch will fix some issues, and acknowledgement of the game's "mixed reception" (PR speak for 'sorry it wasn't very good') has returned some of my hope for future content. And I am loving Arcadion. But in the meantime I am definitely not still feeling the "just log in to hang out in rak'tika" or "time to log in just to rewatch old cutscenes" impulses that kept me subbed for a full 2 years before.
