I've been debating trying WoW again which I never thought I'd say. Apparently the new Xpac is pretty good so far with a better story than FFXIV has. The cartoon graphics and the toxic community are the biggest things holding me back.
the community isnt so toxic anymore, I would say with toxic positivity 14 is even worse but thats just my take. The new story is great its fun and a new approach not a "regular" wow expansion. So far i can say as a new wow player who basicly run from 14 the story was enjoyable. I started in the end of dragonflight and when i was in a heroic raid for the achievement ( cool things btw to give achievements if you kill the raid while its fresh ) the one guy rolled on an item then whispered me if i want to have it he mistakently rolled on the wrong item and just traded it for free. Dunno if its me but i havent encountered toxic people there.

they have so cool features in their housing. I mean you can pet your mounts what more do you want ah an alt room oh wait they got that aswell. Just reading this made me want to try out the new GW expansion.

I plan on unsubbing for a month, at least until next patch, maybe longer. The MSQ's final zone left me disappointed and numb, which is not a good sign since it's quite honestly the first time it happened since I played the game. The overall MSQ quality of writing didn't leave a very satisfying feeling of a conclusion to a base expansion. If anything, it made me very skeptical about the future MSQ & the quality of its writing due to how contradictory the storytelling is compared to previous expansions. This is probably one of the biggest factors since MSQ hype and execution usually blunts how simplistic the gameplay can be.

Combat Gameplay wise, there is no content left for me to really enjoy in PvE since I no longer enjoy Viper as much after the changes. Healers as an entire role are in a terrible spot in terms of fun for me for years now, and there hasn't been enough improvement. If anything, the trinity imbalance made it feel worse. Can't really enjoy content if the jobs I'm using to experience the content with aren't enjoyable. The new raids are a step in the right direction, but that's just it. It's a step. Everything else seems to have taken a couple steps back...

As far as PvP goes, I'd enjoy PvP more if it weren't for all the intentional sandbagging in the games lately. Games that have possibilities to win became unwinnable due to lethargic play. Viper is also terribly designed in PvP currently because the job is designed to function like a PvE job and PvP gameplay is nothing like attacking a stationary PvE boss with a huge hitbox. The gameplay is starting to feel a little stale.

Originally I wanted to level more jobs to 100 and complete the role quest storylines, but the quality of the writing sometimes feel bland and painful to read. It's been killing my motivation constantly while I'm going through those quests. I'm just not having fun. Graphics is nice in the new zones. However, graphics related to my character hasn't really made me feel that excited. Being a Hrothgar and seeing all the limitations didn't cause much fluctuation in my mood as it could have been as far as new graphical update on glamour and terrible posture goes. Simply put, there's nothing that really grabbed my attention very strongly as it did in previous expansions that make me want to continue playing. I have an entire backlog of things I wanted to do in the game, but I just have no motivation to continue them at the moment. It's a shame too, because I was really looking forward to what Dawntrail was offering.

So, after reading some of your comments, I felt like sharing my own thoughts as well.

After Shadowbringers (ShB) and Endwalker (EW), I wasn't expecting much from the story. The EW 6.X patches only reinforced my skepticism. Interestingly, I was discussing Dawntrail (DT) with my wife, and while she was convinced that DT would be a disaster—fearing that the story would be slow and possibly boring—she was particularly upset because her most anticipated class for years is on its way to the doctor to be castrated into a limited job. (Great job, by the way, after saying you'd never make another limited job again.) I don't care much about Beast Master myself, but it does make me think: I'm paying the full subscription fee, so why am I getting a limited class? Should I be able to pay a limited subscription just to keep my house? I doubt it.

So, after months of defending DT with thoughts like, "Maybe they'll surprise us" or "They might add something interesting," the release date approached. My wife bought me DT as a gift because I had been looking forward to it and was excited. On the pre-release, I jumped into the game I've loved for so many years, eager to continue the journey. But after the first dungeon in the MSQ, I found myself more bored than I was in Final Fantasy XVI... DT eventually turned me into a story skipper because I was completely uninterested. I started visiting the forums, and it turns out I'm not alone.

Now, after hearing that they see the feedback but aren't addressing it properly, I'm noticing a lot of Blizzard-like moves. Meanwhile, Blizzard has made some changes that I thought were great, so I decided to give them another chance. But after seeing some interviews, I’m not sure if Yoshi-P is just tone-deaf or if he doesn’t understand the feedback.

Long story short, here are my reasons for staying subscribed:

I always have a 6-month subscription, which I paid for in July, so I’m stuck.
    My large house.
Eden was my first raid tier, and I really want to see the ultimate.

    Reasons for unsubscribing:

    The MSQ is bad.
SE employees insult customers, or GMs close threads without a reason.
The job changes... I don’t even know how to describe them.
No fun events or anything giving me a reason to log in between 5-month patch gaps.
    Yoshi-P's interviews—just read them, and you’ll understand.
The healer situation is absurdly bad.
Tanks are no longer fun to play.
I found a fun DPS, but it's getting weird changes with the Savage patch.
No QoL improvements this time? There are so many things to address, and no, the blacklist is just a half-measure QoL change—don’t get me started.

It's sad to see the game in this state, but recent patches and DT make me wonder if the joy I've experienced in the past few years was just luck or if I was looking at CBU3 through rose-colored glasses...

    for me:
I haven't been able to play due to the horrible blurriness of the game. I already unsubbed 1 account and after transferring houses over i will do the same for the other.

the limited msq i played already felt just bad (i facepalmed when someone gets kidnapped). And then getting to that area caused me headaches and eye strain.

I don't see it being addressed in the near future and all motivation to play has vanished to they point where even if it was fixed i wouldn't come back.

I've been playing since 2017, constantly subbed. I had held off pre-ordered DawnTrail due to the payment process issues - friends of mine got hit by it and couldn't re-sub due to this. Because of this I didn't feel like paying for the expansion with the strong possibility that my sub would be refused payment after paying for the expansion... leaving me unable to play for something I'd just paid for. Not to mention I prefer to do expansions with my friends around doing it as well, which wasn't possible due to them being blocked from subbing.

I decided to watch streamers play through DawnTrail - I'm not too fussed about spoiling myself on stuff, so this was not a bother. I'll be honest in saying I was not happy with the writing of the expansion - the scions did not feel like the same ppl I'd come to know & like/love over the past 7 years, they came across as hollow shells of themselves. The overall MSQ felt badly paced and seemed to be trying to incorporate everything from previous expansions all in 1 expansion... it just didn't work for me. There were some moments that shined, but overall the MSQ was a real downer for me. Seeing just how bad the MSQ was just made me glad I had not pre-ordered (I've pre-ordered every other expansion that came out after 2017) and put my off buying it even after the payment issue was apparently resolved.

So I've been finding myself logging in once a week just to do the weekly stuff - Island Sanctuary, Fashion Report, and custom deliveries. In the end I decided that was not enough... that it was not worth paying for a sub just to log in 3-4 times for that... with no inclination to do anything else in the game. I have completed all the MSQ up to 6.55, I've done all the ARR to EW Raids and Alliance Raids, I've done Palace of the Dead / Heaven-On-High / Eureka Orthos, I've done Bozja, done all Class and Role quests (apart from BlueMage), done all the beasttribes, and I've gotten all classes to the max EW level (90). The only things I have not finished is the Blue Mage questline and the Variant dungeons and their stories/quest's - and I was doing the Variant dungeon with my friends rather than doing it solo or via PF. Don't feel inclined to do it solo or with PF, I want to do it with friends as that's fun to me... not doing it solo or with strangers.

My friends also decided to not resub and are waiting to see how SE and the XIV team go from here, will the writing get better, with the WoL become more relevant (not being the centrepiece is fine, but we should still feel to be a part of things... and not just there with no purpose/meaning/use/etc), will the scions become who they are and not lifeless husk's, etc... and so without my friends to play with, with no desire to buy DawnTrail and experience firsthand what I saw others experience... I cancelled my sub, and it runs out on Aug 31st (so in 2 days time for me). Me and my friends will be keeping an eye on gow the 7.X patch's go, where the MSQ goes, and what the writing is like... if it improves we might come back. Who knows... we do have a long list of games in our backlog, as well as other games we enjoy playing together... altho we do hope things get better and we can come back.

Not to seem dismissive of people’s leaving, but. I feel like the significance of ‘unsubbing’ is largely lost when not only is the game specifically designed around players having long periods of ‘not playing’, but when such a thing is actively encouraged by the devs lol.

Addendum: it’s certainly not the ‘business model’ I’d go for lol but it’s how the devs have approached players unsubbing since the beginning

I am waiting for my sub to end as well, in a couple of weeks or so. For the first time since I started playing the game, 4 years and a half ago. The story is essential for me to be happy playing: even after I finish a msq expansion and patches, the atmosphere is still there, and keeps me doing dungeons, roulettes, side content. That changed with the post EW patches, and with DT it hit an impenetrable wall. I can't pay them for the privilege of waiting in the hope that they will cut short this infantile, shallow, flat, repetitive, disneyfied, utterly dismal writing. Post EW and the whole of DT have soured the whole game experience (which had been beautiful up to that point) for me. I don't know what kind of audience they intended to target with this kind of expurgated "abc for 4 year old kids", because, in my experience, 4 year old kids have a much wider, more nuanced, more creative and imaginative minds. I can't go on. I'll keep an eye on what happens with the alliance raid and the field zone when they release them, but as things stand now, I don't even regret to lose my medium house. I don't play other games, but the world is full of wonderful books.
