Unsubbed Thread (Tell us why)

I'm un-subbed, and as of today i will not be paying to play for XIV.
This is less a blog, more of a collective of how many other Eorzeans decided to be unsubbed now. You may repost saying when you RE-Sub, I intend to if I do. I would like this thread to show case those that have, like myself. If you'd like to say why, please do so as I will!
I'll be brief, I'm a common on/off player since this game released in ARR, since day 1. I like playing other games, so I'm usually only subbed for 2-6 months a year depending on the content provided. I presume this to be the case this year as well, as long as content releases are exciting.

But this will be the first time i unsub from total dissatisfaction. There are plenty of threads to vent on the state of the game, but this one I'd like to be for those who have decided to UNSUB, because of the state of things. The MSQ has faltered, and I cant quite say I enjoy the reception the developers have had to the feedback. I personally don't think it'll steer well, so I'm backing out for now. I lament this, because I've met more friendly players in this time, than I have in almost my other play time. As I believe, the story and traditionally single player content failed me so miserably I turned to community, and they have been very very wonderful. Be that as it may, I can't condone what I've seen for the development of this game I've played for a decade+ now.

So if you have a story to tell, for your unsub/resub times, please tell it! I'd love to read and discuss it with all of you.

I unsubbed after playing the final bit of MSQ before the Stormblood expansion, because the story just felt like nonsense. I thought it was dumb that one of my favorite characters suddenly became an entirely different person that I found grating, and I thought it was dumb that the Alliance was going to full-on enter into a war just because of a single false-flag operation. I had found the writing and story in the lead-up quests to be agonizing to get through, and I didn't have the appetite to stomach any more of it. I recognized that I wasn't enjoying my time with the game, so I unsubscribed.

A few years later, I just started wanting to play the game again. I didn't expect the story to be any better, but I just missed being my character and doing the boss fights. And as luck would have it, a few weeks later Shadowbringers released...and while it was a mental struggle to get through Stormblood (I refused to skip it because I wanted to know the lore), it was so worth it to reach the other side and get to experience the chef's kiss of Shadowbringers. And since then, I've stuck around because I enjoy playing the game, even if Dawntrail's writing was nearly as poor as Stormblood's at some points. I'm enjoying the Arcadion, and hopefully future MSQ updates will demonstrate that they've learned something from 7.0's mistakes.

So I'm virtually unsubbed since I only log in to make sure I can post.

Can't even really enjoy the game so there's no point in being subbed unless they address things like the bloom being forced on.

Will probably unsub for 2 months before FRU (which is supposed to release december-january), and also 2 months before m5s-m8s, and so on till 7.4 where i'll unsub for 1 year

FFXIV was always a story first game and we got mediocre story at best..

since ShB writer already left FFXIV the only way to save the game for me is combat system and fights.. and the current fights are not enough it is 4 hours a week then logout to play another game..

I am imagining if the game continue with this level of story with the slight changes on combat (job design/fight design) this would be the end of it for me

My sub ends in 12 days. And I can't in good consciousness stay subbed on a game I do no longer enjoy. I only started this game 2 years ago and fell in love with it. The story, the characters, the music and I really enjoyed it. Heavensward being my all time favorite and loved all the other expansions and then came Dawntrail....

The zones are great, music as usual top notch, but the story...well, there was none to speak of. It was incoherent, unfinished and the worst part of all, boring. Characters were hollow, no substance, no personality and the whole expansion revolved around one single character. And what a character it was...I don't think I've ever hated a bunch of code and pixels as much as I hate Wuk. So I wait out my sub, didn't log in for 3 days, because I just can't bring myself to do anything in game.

December/january ? Dude I hope it releases in max 2 months. The xpac has been out for 2 months already, I hope they don't make it a trend to do 6-months wait times. It was dry enough already with 3-4 months patch cycles.

Haven't unsubbed yet, but have had less desire to play as much. The weak MSQ and how homogenized and boring jobs have become is making me lose interest. I like the new raids, but I'm a new Savage player and Party Finder is kinda insufferable and I can't make a static work right now, so I cleared M1S, kept hitting the enrage wall on M2S, and haven't tried again in a couple weeks.

I've been debating trying WoW again which I never thought I'd say. Apparently the new Xpac is pretty good so far with a better story than FFXIV has. The cartoon graphics and the toxic community are the biggest things holding me back.

I am subbed because I still love the gameplay and the current end game. But if they throw another Stormblood MSQ at me in 8.0, I am not sure I'd continue. It's been a decade since I transitioned from WoW to FFXIV. Now as an adult I have less time to enjoy a game, I am not going to spend what little time I have on a game that decided to go in a completely different direction. The MSQ should at minimum have young adult themes and not make me feel like I am watching the equivalent of Dora the Explorer for the first half of it only for the second half to be rushed.

My sub runs out in 2 weeks and I won't be returning unless things change drastically.

HW gripped me with it's fantastic setting, realistic characters and S-tier story. I've been an MSQ junkie ever since. When when I've unsubbed before, I always looked forward to returning as I loved fooling around with friends on discord and slowly grinding relics, glam and side content.

EW patch content was a disaster. MSQ and trial stories were consolidated into one, the endgame zone was substituted for a Microsoft Excel simulator and the fun relic grind was reduced to a vendor weapon. The lack of midcore content really stood out. It was so painfully obvious that the team's resources and attention went to FF16, when they should have been focusing on 14 during its jump in popularity due to WoW's downfall.

I was really, REALLY looking forward to a complete reset with Dawntrail. Specifically a brand new, original story and THE MOST CONTENT THEY'VE EVER PROMISED!!!!

I mean, sure, content usually comes in patches, but they've never announced an endgame zone, criterion, cosmic exploration, a limited job, deep dungeon, ultimate, daily tribal quests, etc, on top of the usual content, ALL IN THE SAME EXPANSION! Surely, at least 1 of those pieces of content will be available at launch, right?

Then Dawntrail released - literally the single worst MSQ experience in the whole franchise's history (except FF11, never played that one, so I wouldn't know).
Slow pace, lack of actual gameplay, an awful children's story in a game where adult topics were always the norm.

At least the leveling dungeons were great, so I was looking forward to all the promised conten....Wait, the only thing available during the first month of release is a treasure dungeon.... Which is a reskin of all the previous treasure dungeons down to even the layout.... -_-

Dawntrail's MSQ was so abysmal it not only killed my excitement for the story, it lifted the veil obscuring the game's, well, gameplay shortcomings.

I can only repeat the same dungeons, raids and extremes so many times before I reach for my PS5's power cable. Especially when the majority of jobs I enjoy play identically to how they have for the past 2-3 years.

There's nothing fun or exciting for me.

After Dawntrail's launch I stayed subscribed for 2 reasons: playing with my discord friends and waiting for a Live Letter hoping the negative feedback will be addressed and a course-correction promised. Yoshi-P's recent interviews killed that last hope.

I'll keep an eye on subsequent patches, but until something drastically changes that's it for me. It's a shame, because I love MMOs, but now none appeal to me. I guess single player games it will be for a while ..
