Yoshi-P tells PC Gamer that he is "not shocked" by mixed DT reception

I think having her be such a focus and someone in an influential position is a problem, but she's a lot like Emmanellain so we've already seen wildly different types of characters in the game. I couldn't see him talking to Yotsuyu or Fordola either. But it's his more responsible brother that has the position of influence, not him.

Not to mention Emmanellain gets his comeuppance for his attitude and actually fucks up and then tries to do good and admits he is a fuck up. Sure he's still pretty much a comedy character and portrayed as a dumbass fuck up but he has at least been called out for it and tried to fix it.

I actually don't hate Wuk Lamat, but now that I've had two months to think about her character, the #1 sin they committed with her was telling instead of showing. And when they did tell, they told an incomplete story.

They SHOWED us she's motion sick and bad with travel - good job there! - and then left it on the player to extrapolate out that that's the reason she hasn't left the city again since she was like 5 years old? Incomplete story.

They TOLD us that she nearly drowned in a cenote when she was three, and then assumed we could infer that that's why she's a bit touched in the head, scared of heights, and has problems with motion sickness. Incomplete story.

They TOLD us that she's good with people. That was her secret hidden strength. Yeah, uh, I guess compared to her brothers, she has a functional empathy chip, but they never showed us in any meaningful way her actually being a master negotiator or even being clever with words. She's just a lovable dumb orange cat with a big axe as far as anyone can tell. The handful of times it happened, it was very clearly Deus Ex Machina and the plot folded her way. Does she have a secret +2000 charisma stat that makes people bend to her will?

Wait, so she's just... uh... brain damaged? I mean, that actually makes sense. That makes a LOT of sense. This gives me an entirely new outlook on the story. That's very tragic and almost touching in a way. Did everybody else know?? Is that why everyone treats her that way? Holy shit, this changes everything.

Yes look at multiole sources exactly. Never trust one source which why people call steam a small sample. Trusting one source is just asking to get proven wrong. In DT case its not wrong but only a fool would rely on one source and a small one at that.

But there are other sources, as long as you are open to look at them. You can talk about the metacritic score, that is about the same as the steam score. You can talk about how the main FFXIV subreddit has become overwhelmingly negative since the EW patches, when it used to be known as a place where you could not say something negative about the game. You can talk about the fact it's hard to find a positive review about DT on YT except a couple of day 1 review, and even those that liked the expansion overall, are very critical toward some of the choices (Krile done dirty again and the overwhelming presence of Wuk Lamat are often pointed out - once again, even by people that globally liked it). None of those alone is enough, but all of those indicate a trend.

That said, there is ONE argument that tells you that dawntrail reception is mixed by itself. Yoshi-P himself said so. Why are you trying to defend the posture that steam numbers are not representative, and that dawntrail reception is not mixed when Yoshi-P admitted it. It's just ridiculous. Steam number being enough or not to judge of the reception won't change the fact it is a mixed reception...

That's not as massive as you think it is, only 4,067 reviews on steam for DT a rain drop comparison too FF14's player base. Only 3,846 came from players who purchased DT off steam at the time of this post. Its been said time and time again Steam is a small sample not even %1 of the games player base.

A quick search will show for 1 million people you only need around 400 (random) people for 95% accuracy. After a certain point, large sample sizes are no different than if you sampled 400 - 1,000 people.

A sample size of 4,067 random people is an absolutely massive sample size for the game - 10x more than what is needed.

Steam numbers are a good representative of what is happening within the game - even if it doesn't tell the story you want it to tell.

The main focus of FFXIV its to keep the Mare addon playerbase and modbeast subbed.

Everything else its secondary, because a third program that should be ilegal its keeping the game alive. For example how mods keeps a 13 year old singleplayer game (Skyrim) more alive than most current games on the market.

Pretty sure Koana knows and that's why he's so overprotective. Any sibling of a disabled brother or sister, younger or older, is pretty overprotective of them.

Whether it was actual brain damage, or just the deep seated trauma from that ordeal, it definitely is what gave her her problems with traveling over water.
