when will grand company ranks finally get an overhaul?

It would be nice if they finally allowed us to rank up further and expand the idea. They have mentioned that they have no idea how to implement it into the current time, so what are your ideas for it?

I would like for more squadron missions to be able to haul back gear, which can be turned back into seals. Higher rank shops, expanding on the shops we already have and continuing them. Like the mount loot boxes we have, going into end walker and dawn trail. And even more customization stuff for your grand company, like high rank emblems on your adventurer plate, etc.

We did not used to have the captain rank. The max rank used to be "Second Lieutenant".

In order to expand the ranks, they wanted to go through the trouble of making it meaningful ie. we'd have to command an actual squadron. So that's what they did and that is how adventurer squadrons came about.

So in order to rank up even further, we'd perhaps have to be in control of multiple squadrons or even the entire military for that grand company, in Square Enix's mind. I think that there is not enough player interest in it to really do this so it has always been kind of a side project that they last bothered with just before and after Stormblood.

The same day the patch adressing low level and ability sync systems, Viera and Hrothgar hats, instanced housing, and older trial weapons for newer classes comes out.

Just as gardening, chocobos, netcode, client architecture, Viera hats, airships and many others, this subject goes into a bin at SE's HQ called "What is this, lol? Who cares!"

For the most part I'm fine with not ranking up in the GCs, but with the recent interview where YoshiP toyed with the idea of "there's so much of Hingashi left to explore, maybe the WoL could become a shogun or something", it would be extremely funny to me if we became a far east shogun before actually reaching anywhere near the top of a Grand Company in rank.

Pretty much all of Eorzea is at peace at the moment so the usefulness of the Grand Companies is debatable, and also I'm not sure if they think any higher rank would be appropriate for the WoL, who is supposed to be a daring adventurer. If I become Supreme Commander, then doesn't that mean I have to sit at a desk and do paperwork to manage all of the people under my command? I don't think the Grand Companies themselves would want their leader they are dependent on to be someone who constantly puts themselves at the brink of death and travels to other worlds/end of the universe.

I get a feeling that it will be final game content to give a bookend to our story, until then, it will remain untouched.
