I'll never understand why people are bothered by shout ads and are incapable of tuning them out. I can't tell you the content of a single shout ad since my brain just makes them a void when I see it.

Agreed. I mean, it's Final Fantasy XIV. Why would you even play this game if you don't want to go to venues? I'd get if this was WoW and you wanted to turn off services chat. But guess what? It's FFXIV. Removing venues is like removing 90% of why we play this game in the first place. And some of us actually like seeing these ads. We need to know which clubs DJ Limit Break is showing up in. If you don't want venue "spam", just go back to WoW at this point. No one cares and no one's going to listen to your whining.

Perhaps filtering "gpose" or "venue" or something of the sort would be a more efficient solution than filtering the name of the people bothering you.

I'm not sure if anyone is purposefully trying to cheat the filter so much as the filter just kind of sucks. People use things like the special characters and block letters to make the message stand out more and have a more formatted look to it, not to try to purposefully bypass filters.

Then my post serves its purpose as a bug report doesn't it?

I'm all for improving the filters by allowing more of them and maybe even regular expressions but also I think it's a little conspiracy brained to assume every person posting shout chat ads is trying to circumvent your personal filters to advertise to you and lord in heaven I can't imagine getting mad at people for gposing or bothering to put it down by trying to contrast it with photography. I promise you that the way you play and enjoy the game isn't actually that better than how anyone else chooses to. People who get mad at other people having fun are much more in need of grass touching imo.

Overall the chat system is just kind of a mess in 14. It's not the worst but it could be better. Novice chat shouldn't double as a world group chat etc but not because I don't think it wouldn't be nice to have one so that people wouldn't feel the need to be in the novice chat.

Why on earth your takeaway was me feeling its targeted at me?

Its simple, you block term x, they change that term into an [x], now the filter doesn't work anymore and I'm still seeing ads for a content I don't care for and find obnoxious to see it being spammed in the game chat.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be allowed to enjoy RP, venues or all that stuff. You do you, but you are not special to the point it grants you a pass to annoy people that do not partake in your type of content.

I agree the that the filter is, while a great and promising start, very flawed in it's execution, and gives the impression it wasn't actually tested outside of JP.

It should have a larger character limit. It should not be case-sensitive.

Still, this is not a bug report so much as the feature not being fleshed out and thought out fully. And I do believe unicode symbols like those are simply read as more than one character. And if it were a bug, general discussion wouldn't be the place for it.

And as a side note, resorting to attempting to insult venues and gposers themselves because you're frustrated just causes people to dismiss the valid concerns you have about the filtering system itself.

This is a 14 character term (15 with the space I removed), and yet it says its has 42 characters

It's because those characters are in the unicode special characters space. It takes more bytes to encode them than it does to encode plain letters and numbers.
