The menacing aura of every Lalafell.

Got in, had a 400+ queue, got booted, got back in and shortly thereafter got booted again. Queue was over 1100. Those in duty before we disbanded said all of NA got hit.
Can we try and mitigate this somehow?

They go out of their way to do so. They are fighting it constantly and they contact ISPs to help them setup countermeasures, since the nearby nodes that don't even belong to SE are what usually get attacked (a dirty tactic by the attackers, because everyone blames SE for it when it's not even SE being attacked technically).
yeah, and the server status always says they 're fine - made it to below 100 in que then 2002 and back to 1200 :/

The curse of DDOS attacks.
This has been way too common lately.

Not a whole lot you can do against DDOS when you run a service that is, by design, DDOS-vulnerable.
...throttle packets and everyone lags with 1k+ pings
...limit connections and you have a 100k queue
...turn up the aggressive of 'packet spam' block and everyone gets random DCs because their client hit the threshold while in a fight
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

Yep. In the middle of M3S and booted. 293 queue at first. Get back in, pop afk for a bio while we wait for 2 more and booted again. 931 queue that time. I'm back in again but just replenishing pots until I see if things are stable or not.
LMAO a DT S rank spawned on my world during the outage, and it took almost 20 minutes to kill with how few players were able to get to it.
