It also offers very little to make the role enjoyable when doing things solo, like playing the MSQ, running FATES, deep dungeon, variant dungeons, etc. Those aren't insignificant imo, and I want the role to be enjoyable in all aspects of the game, not just group content.

Healer should heal crowd always ignore this.

FFXIV is not like SWTOR where you can have tank/dps companion for all solo content.

You need to be a masochist to attempt deep dungeon solo challenge as AST.

If our Chocobo actually tanked properly when in their tank mode I'd be quite a bit happier to run around the field as a healer.

That or if monsters tamed with Beastmaster could be used even when not using the job, and assuming different monsters can cover different roles.
