Prevent purchase of Mogstation items you already own or allow refunds or exchanges.

I like to collect the ingame music. I am past the achievement "Leader of the Band VII". So when I saw the current Mogstation sale included a couple orchestrion rolls I decided to buy them.

After receiving them I was disappointed to learn that I already owned one of them. With as many as I have its hard to remember them all. I'd expect something that involves the exchange of real money would have safeguards to prevent this. All the ingame shops do. Why doesn't the Mogstation? And then to learn that refunds are not an option. This is quite upsetting.

Firstly the Mogstation should have safeguards at minimum equal to the ingame ones. Until such a time as they can be implemented. refunds or exchanges for items of equal or lesser value should be an option. How about an NPC to exchange them like there is for exchanging gender-bound items? Or maybe a vendor that only deals in Mogstation items and uses a unique currency that can only be gotten buy selling Mogstation items to them, as to account for differences in values because of sales and such.

This post will probably go nowhere but its worth a shot.

That's awful...I can make a suggestion for you to maybe make an excel sheet with the songs that are the mogstation that you don't own, a wishlist of sorts and consult it later? Seems like effort but I'm not even sure if they'd change their dinosaur ways....Small indie company and all that...

I'm not sure they'd add what you suggest since you can buy an item from them multiple times but on different characters (because they're greedy like that). It'd be nice if mogstation could track 'you already bought this item on X character', perhaps it could take from your purchase history...I'm honestly not sure. I always paranoid double/triple check what I'm buying and what character I'm sending it to :/

Or even let players customize what items they own on which character, like a tick or whatever, since idk how far the purchase history goes.

I doubt they'd go through the trouble of making refunds or adding a vendor ingame since that'll have to account for the discounts they make and that opens its own can of worms I think

Not the first time I've heard something like that, and I'd be surprised if it were the last lol. Definitely agree that they need to take measures to make these things more customer friendly, if not more intuitive. It's a long time coming.

The better question is why aren't ALL mogstation purchases account wide? Why can't they properly design a store? Why is buying the game so baffling idiotic that it probably scares a good portion of new players away?

Honestly embarassing they refuse to address any of these issues just so they can shove more money into SE's pocket.

Same thing happened to me. I bought an item on sale that I apparently already had on my alt, but I didn't realize I'd already bought it previously for her. Nothing to be done about it. I can't use it in game, and there's no returns or exchanges. I would have taken just exchanging it for cash shop credit so I could get another item for her instead, but nope, can't even do that.

Bah, and it took them 10 years to make an in-game flag mark for items already owned.
Guess we have to to wait another ten years for this feat within the XIV store…

You answered your own question. They won't directly address it because "we have a terminal case of corporate greed, sorry" is a bad PR move. Easier to say it without saying it, like they already are.

Now, in a way, making it possible for things to happen like the OP described is also more money in their pocket -- in the short-term. But inconveniences (to put it lightly) like this make these scorned customers less likely to purchase again in the long-term, which is counter to what the company's clear goal is... which is take our money so they can spend it on I guess NFT integration or whatever the hell their CEO jerks off to these days, idk.

So no, they're probably not going to "fix" the way the vast majority of their stock is character-locked, because that's working exactly as designed, whether we like it or not. But essentially robbing someone like OP because their barely integrated online store doesn't track anything that it should -- and offers no recourse after the fact -- is negligence that affects all parties.

The problem is, I guess, that SE doesn't think it affects their bottom line enough to do anything about it, apparently, because this isn't new lol.

this is just typical ffxiv/SE UX design, everything has to be overcomplicated. You will find these issues at every corner, i.e. changing server could be a 1 click and wait thing, but no please click through several menus.
