    Is there room for a raid-buff tank?

    Currently no tank has a party damage buff. Do we know why SE's shied away from this? We have raid-buff healers (AST/SCH). Maybe that could be a new identity for DRK? PLD has the party defensives, DRK gets party offensives, WAR gets to remain unkillable, GNB is the selfish-DPS of tanks.

    I don't really see why you'd want one. It's not like jobs with raid buffs contribute more to 8 person content on average. It only ends up as a disadvantage for being weaker in content with less than 8 players.

    No, but there is room for raid buffs on the tank role. Ideally it'd be something that pressures uptime such as a permanent enemy vulnerability, each tank bringing a stack of it. However, CBU3 moved away from this design in Shadowbringers and it's unlikely we'll see it come back.

    However, given that raid buffs are primarily damage contribution, currently the role most sorely needing a bigger share of the damage pie are the healers, as even the buff centric Astrologian is something like 10% behind in total damage contribution to the weakest tank.

    One thing that I feel could be enjoyable on tanks is the ability to deliver a counterattack to a boss on a fight-specific basis that leaves them vulnerable, such as after a big tankbuster. It might open the way to more variable burst timings that are fight-dependent.

    Because tank is the least played role. And the raid buffs for healers are split which is why it will be hard for them to introduce a new healer. They were going to go down this route by splitting the tanks into MT and OT but that backfired bigtime.

    Dps and healers already have a hard time being buffed and nerfed depending on how impactful their raid buffs are, can't even imagine how bad the tanks would be if they did.

    And even if they did want one, it would the same 2min raid buff that buffs general damage which is very boring and dull.

    I'm honestly so tired of the fixed 2min buff/burst window. It's super limiting in terms of creativity and hard limits certain gameplay styles bc nothing can truly deviate from it. This also limits the encounter designs too bc you have to pace the fight out so buffs line up for the window of opportunity.

    I miss buff/bursts windows that were 3min or 1min bc the jobs would feel stronger in certain fights with higher downtime or no uptime.

    The devs may have achieved "balance" and praised for it but really, they just homogenized everything so nothing can truly be "unique".

    The combat design is so barebones once you realize how predictable their thought process is behind everything. Nothing has any real depth in them. It's just the same song and dance with different coats of paint. The choreography aspect may be interesting but it's grown stale bc they keep taking mechanics away that had any complexity.

    It might not be such a bad idea now that we have 2 selfish melees, and there's likely to be a 5th tank in the next expansion.

    I did think about this with Dark Knight a bit, using something like Ninja that increased the damage the enemy takes rather than increasing the damage dealt (more thematic).
