Joined Carpernter's Guild, Now Want Out of It

I'm not new to FFXIV, but took a 2yr break and now I'm back, I've never tried a crafting class so decided to try Carpenter Guild. Complete confusion reigns. I acquired the entry level saw, but when trying to complete the first quest two things happened:

    1. By equipping the saw to complete the quest, my toon was stripped naked and all items were returned to the Armory Chest. Legs, feet, and gloves lost their glamours, and now those glamours can't be re-applied. The glamour-applying dialogue says it was completed, but also warns that it won't be applied if any class can't wear the glamour item. It worked fine until I equipped the saw.

    2. To complete the carpenter's quest, I have to synthesize maple logs into maple lumber. I've got the logs and wind shards to do it, but when attempting to use them in the carpentry class log, I hit "synthesize" and get no maple lumber. The class log offers no information as to why, and I can't find any info anywhere on how to perform it correctly.

I've had it with crafting classes, I want out of Carpenter class and Guild. All I want now is for my previously applied glamours to work. This has really taken the bloom off of my excitement from upgrading to the new expansion, which I just completed last night.

Thanks in advance for any help achieving my goal of getting out of carpentry.

This happens pretty much every time you start a new class, since the new class is usually at level 1 and most gear isn't usable while that low. Same goes for glamours, which are applied only to the singular piece of gear and cannot be applied to gear of lower level than the glamour (or if you're using plates, then you can assign a plate to be auto-applied when you equip a gearset, but carries the same restrictions).

When synthesizing, you actually have to 'craft' the item by executing some abilities. When you click the big yellow 'Synthesize' button, a window like this should appear:

You'll have to get the Progress to its max to actually craft the item. (Quality gives the item a chance to be High Quality, which makes crafted gear and consumables better, but is irrelevant at low levels)

At level 1, you have the 'Basic Synthesis' spell, which can only be used while this window is open. Use 'Basic Synthesis' a few times until the progress reaches the max, and then you'll have your lumber.

In the future, subsequent crafts of an item after the first can be automated with the 'Quick Synthesis' button.

Once you join a crafting guild (e.g. unlock the crafting class associated it), you can't really leave it. However, you can freely switch off of the class by re-equipping a different class/job's weapon.

In FF14, equipping weapons is how you change your class. So when you equipped the Saw, your class changed to "Level 1 Carpenter" and all of the equipment that a Level 1 Carpenter can't wear was unequipped.

But don't worry, all of your items and their glamours are still there! By equipping your old weapon, you can become your combat class again, and then you can equip your old gear and be back to normal!

One thing you'll probably want to do once you figure that out is to save Gear Sets for your different classes; that way you can easily switch from being a Carpenter to being a different class without becoming naked and having to put on all your clothes one-by-one. Here's the official tutorial page on that: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/uigui...pment_set.html

If I understand you correctly, you chosen to synthesize the item, which starts the process of synthesis, but you have yet to play the "mini-game" that you need to do to actually finish the synthesis. There's an explainer if you go to this page and then click the big "Disciplines of the Hand" button: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/craft...ide/carpenter/

That's extremely helpful, so THANKS AGAIN. I'll take another look at carpentry when I get over the shock of being stripped naked in the guild hall.

This too is hugely helpful. I'll delve into the solutions offered in both your reply and the adjacent one as soon as I recover from the shock of this morning.

Update: Your advice was responsible for getting me re-centered. I jumped 14 levels in carpentry today, to L20. I've also got my glamours back. I'd forgotten about the equipment lists after two years away from the game. Thanks so much!

Update: I hit level Level 20 in Carpentry today, and got my glamours squared away. I'd forgotten about the equipment lists. Thanks for saving my bacon.
