Why do Jump and High Jump still have an movement lock?

In 6.2, Jump and High Jump were altered so as to not physically move your character's location anymore. Therefore, since they're simply 20y range abilities that only give the visual impression of leaping on your target, why do they pause your movement to use them? On a related note, Starcross has a similar animation of your character leaping off screen but it does NOT have any brief movement lock.

Finally, while we are here, if any devs are reading this, why is Starcross only a 3y range ability? All of Drg's abilities are 15-20y range. Given that it looks like a Jump, it should be similar range as the others. Even Viper's "Legacy" and SAM's Iaijutsu have 6y range. Why is Starcross 3y?

That's not what the 6.2 update did. 6.2 made Mirage Dive a separate action rather than make it replace Jump/High Jump.

Both abilities still change your position, but it happens so fast now so you may not notice it. As per the tooltip:

Returns you to your original position after the attack is made.
That said, this particular feature often causes problems rather than providing any benefit. I think the only reason it's there is because Dragoons traditionally "return to where they jumped from" after landing their attack in other FF games.

The 6.4 patch made it so high jump no longer actually changes your characters position

Because it makes the ability feel more impactful. The animation locks are so incredibly short now it's not a problem.

Starcross also looks and feels like crap.

I stand corrected. They should really change the tool tip for it though; you can't *return* from a position you were never in.
