    So... This is the "improved encounter design"?

    Edit: Just a disclaimer since this is not in the thread title, but this is about Savage fights in case it's not clear

    I'm a Party Finder raider (for logistic reasons), and as I'm slowly going through the new Arcadion fights, almost done with M2S clear, I can't help but feel a bit... disappointed?

    Not to the fights themselves! They are well made, I don't take that away, but they are literally more of their 'safe formula' of symmetrical cleaves, mirrored, clockspot based mechanics, or events that are either X > Y or Y > X. Many elements are just things we already know but slightly dressed up. We still need 4 melees and 4 ranged units to resolve mechanics perfectly.

    I did take a peek on M3S and M4S guides and it didn't really change what I think either. As I cleared this week's worth of M1S I kept thinking to myself how interesting would be if the Black Cat's clones were actual priority adds to micromanage instead of just animations?

    The reason why I feel disappointed is because, based on the key notes, I thought we'd see an actual shake up on that formula, maybe taking more risks more out-of-the-box elements, or even paving the way for new types of job utilities to debut in the future.

    I wonder if I got that feel totally wrong or delusional from the Fanfest? But if not, based on the extent of what we got, I kinda fear for the "job identity focus" in 8.0.

    Did you read the whole post? I'm not criticizing the fights for what they are (like I said, they are good), but the directions they could've had based on expectations of what they show pre-expansion.

    And why I made this post even though I don't think the fights themselves are bad? Because their formula, good or not, is getting old for me personally.

    I'm pretty sure Yoshida made a correction that the improved encounters are coming in 7.2, not in 7.0.

    We'll probably see by the 2nd tier.

    Wait, what? For sure I missed that part, then.

    But that's so odd... why wait until nearly halfway through the expansion cycle to introduce this kind of thing?

    Maybe they want people to get accustomed to the new jobs first? Not that much changed with the jobs, but it's normal that they make the start of the expansion easier to on-board new players.

    I dont know how many times people need to say it, but play a game for what it is NOW, not for what the dev says it will be in the future. If you're not enjoying it, why are you playing?

    I don't remember which media tour interview it was, but they did kinda give some vague hints of the thought process for 'different' fights which they mentioned the possibility of using emotes to resolve a mechanic. I'm not expecting a whole lot, but we'll probably see some weird stuff like that in the future.

    No that was a mistranslation

    The new encounter design is from 7.0 the job changes are for 8.0 but was mistranslated as actually starting in 7.2, that’s where the 7.2 figure comes from

    As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

    I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

    The new encounter design includes the current savage fights, but there is some context:

    The first tier is always intentionally easier to account for people adjusting to job changes, new rotations and new players. Then they make it tougher as people are used to the new expansion's gimmicks.
