They defnitely need to triple the amount of experience that side quests give.

One side quest is roughly the same of a common FATE, which is wild because the latter can be cleared in a fraction of that time, especially if there are multiple people doing it.

I really don't see the harm. Side quests are a one time thing, is not like a player can endlessly exploit them for all of their jobs.

No, unless the game is built around leveling to be the main content

At least make crafting easier to level! high level crafting is brutal.

you can do other things in the meantime: Arkasodara tribe quests for about 3.5M XP, the ShB fairies quests for 1M, fates for about 500k each, daily hunt targets for about 470K xp each target or you can just use the highest dungeon you can do with npcs. For trusts/duty support, to speed things up, I aggro the next pack of mobs and the npcs will start moving with the other adds. Daily frontlines is a very good source of XP and you can queue on a job you don't care about, switch inside and get the XP on the job with which you queued.

90% of my levelling on DPS has been through Frontline roulette so far lol, it’s an absolute godsend. I’d prefer to do the 91+ story dungeons so I can actually get used to new skills etc, but Frontlines is just so much less hassle to get into (again, as a dps lol)

Side quests aren't meant for levelling. They give a bit of token xp and an infrequent gear coffer as small appreciation for those who are interested in doing them. If you aren't interested in the lore, you can just ignore the yellow quests on the map.

Why not do it with Trusts then? In addition to leveling jobs, you're making progress for a title and alternate costumes for the scions, and also won't have any competition if orchestrion or minion drops.

I look just like the roes next door... if you happen to live next door to an amusement park.

More than leveling itself, the lack of a proper way to level up once you've done the roulette. I just upped VPR from 80 to 90 and I really missed having a bozja like zone that allow a decent leveling and the ability to drop nice loot while not needing to wait 25 min to enter like dungeon (when you want to lvl up a dps class). Fates are good enough for a while, but the fact you only drop bicolor gemstone and that get boring pretty fast (and that's coming from someone that kinda like farming and sometimes did 8hours sessions in Zadnor. After half an hour, I'm bored with Fates).

Just do your custom deliveries every week (bonus)...You also have beast tribes, weekly challenge log. There's also leve quests. Crystarium quests and the one like it in EW etc give big chunks of EXP. There's plenty of low effort and fairly easy ways to level, unless you want to rush it.

    =============
    To OP

That aside, leveling sucks as dps because queues are long and there's just too many dps players/jobs so unless you get a healer/tank to help you out then it might just be abit meh.

I leveled many chars with varying degrees of investment (max jobs), I'll throw in my recommendations I guess, tho it's in no particular order
    • Have FC EXP buff OR Squadron Battle Manual (assuming your squadron isn't neglected) and pop food in dungeons (raisins/boiled egg)It'd
    • challenge log (weekly)
    • khloe (weekly 50% flat EXP at any level, best used on transitionary points or to evade scuffed dungeons, ie. 70 to 71 and 80-81 etc, I personally don't like aurum or bardam or vaspanati so I tend to skip those but it's up to preference. Khloe to me is more valuable to use the higher level you are)
    • beast tribes (from ShB onwards give decent exp, worth unlocking and maxing)
    • msq roul (the forbidden one)
    • frontlines (once a day is nice, you get pvp series from it if you want)
    • deep dungeons (if it pops quickly, from my experience is usually better for a dps rather than sitting in queue for a dungeon)
    • fates (kinda meh, but okay filler if you're desperate)
    • Huntmarks (daily/weekly) go to the huntboard and go kill some mobs for some pocket change exp, worth doing if you're waiting for rouls too and you get some seals/nuts. Seals for aetheryte tickets and nuts for...well whatever you want to do with nuts, current expansion uses nuts too, so it's not horrible.
    • side quests (hardly worth the effort, the exp is pretty bad, but if you're the kind that wants a clean map devoid of quest marks, this is on the checklist)
    • leve quests (battle leves are depreciated I think, not really worth doing unless you're capped and don't plan to use them on crafters and you're desperate for exp)
    • hunting log (useful for getting you up enough for dungeons, ie: 1-16 bracket, you can also throw yourself into palace of the dead as early as level 1)
    • At level 80, Bozja becomes an option for leveling, it does have the issue of having to progress to get to where people are grinding which is usually zone3 of Zadnor (though I'd rather die than go there)

They still want you to remain subbed and do some ~grinding~

They're already remedying that by making any new jobs start at a relatively high level and you need to pop 20 levels. This isn't unreasonable at all I think. Then getting 10 levels for each job every two years is...well not hard at all.

I think Fates could benefit from exp bump, also ARR and HW combat beast tribes didn't really give that much exp when I tried to do it...

There are ways to level up with not too much effort. For example doing some of the daily roulettes (like PvP frontline, leveling or msq) or this random weekly sticker album. But...

    ..., and imo it's a big but(t)!
For longterm players, the always exactly repeating grind to level up stuff 10 levels again every single expansion..., becomes very boring at some point.

    My motivation is gone. :c
