Why is Square Enix so lazy with making weapons lately?

It's not new. Dancer and gunbreaker never got ARR weapons, and sage and reaper never got anything below Shadowbringers (and also didn't get Yokai Watch weapons the last time that event came back). They generally don't bother adding weapons any earlier than the new jobs' starting levels, and even then, not always.

At least they bothered with making crafted primal weapons semi regularly, and that doesn't explain why there's a bunch of missing items from the benchmark

They even stopped doing that the last few patches of EW

They only skipped 6.4 though. Every other EW major post-launch patch added crafted primal weapons, with 6.5 having added the Emerald Weapon ones.

They have said multiple times in the past - Crafted primal weapons are made by staff when they are "off the clock". So we might get some in 7.1. Or we might not. But they are always a nice bonus. Don't expect them.
