While there are a lots of big things I can think of, as for a small changes I'd just like them to stop being innovative and make this game as much like pre2009 FFXI as possible to ensure this games success. I feel like 90% of their ideas to recreate the wheel suck. The wheel works just fine; just put some 20 inch rims on it.

Also deleting classes and following FFXI's job system would be a good start.

Changing the race names back to their real names would also be a nice touch.

Adding some new content once and a while that doesn't reward only WEAPONS would also be dandy.

Before all the former WoW players chime in and say "THIS ISN'T FFXI, I WILL TRACK YOUR ADDRESS AND KILL YOU IF YOU EVER TALK ABOUT FFXI AGAIN!1" FFXI was successful game and considering it's owned by Square in the first place there is no reason they shouldn't copy it. If you love WoW so much just go play it.

^Wooosh! I beat you to the punchline!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet all of you former WoW players were just dying to tell me to go back to FFXI weren't ya'

A barber npc that can change hair styles/colors would be nice.

As much as I would love an updated version of XI, I simply don't have the time to put into it these days. I really like how accessible FFXIV is, because I can accomplish things while only having limited time to play. At the same time I really don't have the heart to go back to XI after all the nonsense I've read about it's state now.

That being said, I still carry my own gripes about XIV and what it lacks compared to what XI did well. I have no problem comparing the two because they're both offspring of the same company. And let's be honest, what's the one thing you see all the time above anything else? Your character. You can deny it til hell's horns are sticking out of the ground, but they're updated versions of FFXI races. Comparison is a good tool to decide what works and what doesn't; from huts to skyscrapers the same method is always used: The roof goes OVER your head.

And to comment: Jobs: cool. I sort of dislike the idea that a WARRIOR doesn't have the ability to use all kinds of weapons, whatever. The names: Whatever. Drops: Cool.

It's the Ragnarok server, transfers were open when the servers merged but are now closed. Supposedly server transfers will be available again some time after 2.0 launches. It's open to all players, but was the suggested server Yoshi created to help maintain a higher concentration of EU players in one place.

Problem is I think they can't just make XI-2 and expect every XI fan to come back. Especially considering their history with "-2" FF's. Many have long quit XI for various reasons and aren't interested in going backwards no matter how much the graphics improve. As many said of WoW-clones "If they enjoy WoW style MMO's they'd play WoW" Same I think can be said of XI. If they preferred XI then they'd play XI. Always with some exceptions of course.

Reading Yoshi-P's letters leaves me thinking he and SE's main goal is to expand the fan base with XIV rather than try to focus on reclaiming XI's base. No matter how much XI fans loved that game the majority of the FF base, especially in the west don't much care for it, and the apathy is even wider in the MMO crowd. Which I think is a major issue XIV 2.0 is meant to change.

Always frustrates me seeing so many FF and MMO discussions going on other forums where XI and XIV never even receive an honorary mention, much less viewed in same light as the rest of the series + other MMO's.

I would want beggar alleys in uldah to be places i wouldnt want to be going down at nighttime,

i would want to get back to town or camp at nighttime rather than be out in the wilderness, unless I was in a party (but done in a way not to make players feel they cant explore). There are npcs that mention airships being shot down or caravans attacked. I would want to see this first hand scripted (sort of like dynamic spawns in red dead redemption) or be at risk of it myself (but not to the point where it becomes tedious)

I would like the deep forest of the black shroud to give off a totally errie atmosphere at nighttime with restricted lighting, mist or fogs. Similar devices used for dungeons. Full lighting around torches but restricted further away.

At the moment cities dont feel very social. There are pubs, plazas, temples and other things in each city but they serve no purpose other than for looks. It would be interesting if the devs could find a purpose for such areas outside of quests. Otherwise you just have players congregating at the most convenient spot in each city. Simple thoughts, we have a journal in our inn, how about a beastiary to read in a library, a Bravery buff when we are in a pub, a Faith buff if we spend time in the various temples, perhaps with mini tasks to do to pass the time. Oh, and Hunt/Mark boards like FF12.
i really like this idea it would be awesome additionally i think it would be great if they added sneak and invis (other than the crap u get from doL classes) so you can do stuff like get the exploration achievements w/o so much death.

    This ^

Perhaps with the exception of changing the race names back; yes we still call the midgets taru, but the names have been here for long enough, really no point changing them back until you give roegadyn their tails.

But otherwise, completely agree with the rest, especially abolishing classes; let jobs be more individualized so they can be fleshed out further rather than sticking 5 new abilities on the same old classes.

Also, it's not like this dev team is being true to the roots of the jobs anyway.
This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.

Indeed, this is exactly what I'm talking about... and awesome post, Altanas. Alcars' pics on the previous page are also an excellent example of what I had in mind.

I would LOVE to see the trade and pirate ships in Limsa coming and going... and if possible, even add a short cutscene (if a player happens to be in that area) for when the main port-gates open and close. Kinda similar to how the port-gates opened and closed for the airships in Bastok on FFXI.

Speaking of movable environments, I've also been wondering if Yoshi-P and the dev team are thinking of making "movable" sky islands. It would be excellent if when we do eventually get a "sky" area that the islands or buildings or bridges etc actually changed configuration based on time of day or week or prevalent element or moon phase.

Would even be more wicked if the entire sky zone (in addition to changing its configuration) actually re-located every week or so... (also visible on the main Eorzean map). For instance, access this week is through the portals near Totorak; access next week is through the portals near Coerthas and in the third week, access is possible via airships only from Ishgard.

Just... something that helped maintain the illusion that you were in an ever-changing labyrinth of some sorts, y'know?

I also agree with several posts here about more animations for the NPCs in town and around Eorzea... for old FFXI players, remember the kid that made deliveries in South Sandy? The Royal guards patrols running at Ghelsba outpost and Davoi? The Ducal Guard Red Ghost in Port Jeuno... (anyone remember how like 30 players would /follow him to make a train?).

Rare appearances of important NPCs or city-state leaders should also be implemented... there is something wickedly awesome about seeing your favourite NPCs in town now and again.

Ohh yeah... more lore on the Emperor's generals. Perhaps one more Legatus (or "Judges") for us to figure out if we love or hate... perhaps one that is cleverly hiding on the sidelines, waiting and bidding his/her time while Darnus and Baelsar continue their individual quests for "glory". An offspring of the Emperor maybe? (Although I honestly reckon we shall get all these anyway when the Garlean Empire finally opens up to us).

The linkshell crests suggestions (on page 2 or 3?) are also great... more variety, more colours, more ability to customize them, better shadowing to enhance the 3D modelling of the crests.

And finally, yes I totally TOTALLY want the FFXII style of NM mob-hunt mission boards... the variety of how the mobs could be hunted, sighted, tracked down etc was quite awesome and made you feel like an important member of Clan Centurio.

    Yep.
