I'd echo this. I enjoyed how the cities seemed a little more alive in XI. Shops maintaining certain hours, npcs walking through town, etc.
I'd like if the different types of magics had different cast animations/poses. Like when casting attack spells, the mage stands this way, and when casting buffs, they stand that way, and casting cures they stand another way.

Walking NPC's would be great.
But honestly, one of the big things that bothers the fuck outta me about FFXIV is that there is no varied cast animations. They are ALL the same pretty much. I really hope this is addressed come 2.0. I mean, even FFXI had different animations for Summoning, Black, and White magic. Not to mention each race's casting animations were a bit different.
