Turn off all sounds, play your music box in backgroundI wanted to make a light thread about things we'd like to see. That no one, including myself, gets irate about. Please feel free to add some of the smaller and less important additions you'd like to see.
A function in Config, where we can upload song files to be played for regions in lieu of the OST.
New LS crests. More colors. Possibly room for creative alterations to make them more unique.

I'd like daytime and nighttime to evoke different responses from players and npcs.
i would want city gates open in the daytime with npc caravans importing and exporting wares. I would want city gates to close at nighttime (of course with other routes out to avoid annoyance) and guard patrols to increase.
I would want beggar alleys in uldah to be places i wouldnt want to be going down at nighttime,
i would want to get back to town or camp at nighttime rather than be out in the wilderness, unless I was in a party (but done in a way not to make players feel they cant explore). There are npcs that mention airships being shot down or caravans attacked. I would want to see this first hand scripted (sort of like dynamic spawns in red dead redemption) or be at risk of it myself (but not to the point where it becomes tedious)
I would like the deep forest of the black shroud to give off a totally errie atmosphere at nighttime with restricted lighting, mist or fogs. Similar devices used for dungeons. Full lighting around torches but restricted further away.
At the moment cities dont feel very social. There are pubs, plazas, temples and other things in each city but they serve no purpose other than for looks. It would be interesting if the devs could find a purpose for such areas outside of quests. Otherwise you just have players congregating at the most convenient spot in each city. Simple thoughts, we have a journal in our inn, how about a beastiary to read in a library, a Bravery buff when we are in a pub, a Faith buff if we spend time in the various temples, perhaps with mini tasks to do to pass the time. Oh, and Hunt/Mark boards like FF12.

This is pretty much what I would like in a nutshell. You know how badass this would be?!!?I'd like daytime and nighttime to evoke different responses from players and npcs.

+1 to this post right here. Small stuff like this goes a long way to make the world feel alive.I'd like daytime and nighttime to evoke different responses from players and npcs.

This is how I feel when I read posts on these boards:

You iecho my thoughts exactly! The world just desperately needs to feel more alive.I'd like daytime and nighttime to evoke different responses from players and npcs.

And as others have said, customizable links hell badges or at the very least a color slider. I also liked the idea to shade them and make them more in-line with the quality of the other graphics.

While running through Gridania the other day I felt the exact same way. That it doesn't feel like a city. And also all for bringing the Hunt/Mark system from FF 12. I always felt it was brilliant and would fit perfectly in an MMO. Technically it's basically like standard kill quests but the Marks in 12 were just so much more fun.

Adventuring to the far reaches of the world, solving little puzzles to force them to come out, and having crazy fights. Honestly it was just so much fun and knowing the battle designer from XI and XII was working on XIV I thought for sure Mark hunting would make it to XIV at first. Heck I'm surprised no MMO I've played has yet to come up with an identical system. I think it would make for a bigger difference then most dev's realize.
This thread reminded me of an awesome article on Massivity about how RP enhances MMO longevity.

My XIVPad:

Indeed, this is exactly what I'm talking about... and awesome post, Altanas. Alcars' pics on the previous page are also an excellent example of what I had in mind.
I would LOVE to see the trade and pirate ships in Limsa coming and going... and if possible, even add a short cutscene (if a player happens to be in that area) for when the main port-gates open and close. Kinda similar to how the port-gates opened and closed for the airships in Bastok on FFXI.
Speaking of movable environments, I've also been wondering if Yoshi-P and the dev team are thinking of making "movable" sky islands. It would be excellent if when we do eventually get a "sky" area that the islands or buildings or bridges etc actually changed configuration based on time of day or week or prevalent element or moon phase.
Would even be more wicked if the entire sky zone (in addition to changing its configuration) actually re-located every week or so... (also visible on the main Eorzean map). For instance, access this week is through the portals near Totorak; access next week is through the portals near Coerthas and in the third week, access is possible via airships only from Ishgard.
Just... something that helped maintain the illusion that you were in an ever-changing labyrinth of some sorts, y'know?
I also agree with several posts here about more animations for the NPCs in town and around Eorzea... for old FFXI players, remember the kid that made deliveries in South Sandy? The Royal guards patrols running at Ghelsba outpost and Davoi? The Ducal Guard Red Ghost in Port Jeuno... (anyone remember how like 30 players would /follow him to make a train?).
Rare appearances of important NPCs or city-state leaders should also be implemented... there is something wickedly awesome about seeing your favourite NPCs in town now and again.
Ohh yeah... more lore on the Emperor's generals. Perhaps one more Legatus (or "Judges") for us to figure out if we love or hate... perhaps one that is cleverly hiding on the sidelines, waiting and bidding his/her time while Darnus and Baelsar continue their individual quests for "glory". An offspring of the Emperor maybe? (Although I honestly reckon we shall get all these anyway when the Garlean Empire finally opens up to us).
The linkshell crests suggestions (on page 2 or 3?) are also great... more variety, more colours, more ability to customize them, better shadowing to enhance the 3D modelling of the crests.
And finally, yes I totally TOTALLY want the FFXII style of NM mob-hunt mission boards... the variety of how the mobs could be hunted, sighted, tracked down etc was quite awesome and made you feel like an important member of Clan Centurio.
Yep.

"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"

More dye colours, allow us to dye all gear in all colours, allow us to dye that gear in sections
Chocobo breeding should have many colours, not just green, blue, red and yellow.
Chocobo breeding cards NEED to list the stats of the bird.
