This has less to do with opinions on westerners and more to do with the English localization team's efforts to hearken back to early ffs as much as possible. In English, the original FFs (and through 7) all translated spell ranks by adding numbers. This is the same reason we have Paladin instead of 'Knight', given the first English translation of FF4.Off topic, but why is English literally the only language to get a numbered spell naming system instead of a suffix based on? Do they genuinely think EN players are that stupid that we can’t understand -ra/-ga/-ja lol. The more I read or think about this game the more it feels like a huge middle finger to western English players (sorry EN speakers you’re too stupid for suffixes, here’s some numbers so you don’t tax your tiny little western brain).
While I feel it's been less distinctive in later years (or maybe it's just the writing in general?), for the most part the English localization has been astounding for the game's life so I tend to give them a bit more credit than that.

The Number thing is a reference to the ealiest FF Games in english but the original reason for that was based on necessity to keep the Letter limit on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. So it was Fir1 Fir2 and Fir3 in that case. This has less to do with opinions on westerners and more to do with the English localization team's efforts to hearken back to early ffs as much as possible. But one should mention the English version loves to do there own stuff which then clashes with the rest of localisations. Apparently during Endwalker a lot of people complained about this fact in the forum or atleast so i read.
Little Correction so, Knight was the upgraded Form of Warrior in the original Final Fantasy, while Cecils Job from the beginning was Paladin.![]()

Could of just updated the effects instead of replacing the abilities but then again it's FFXIV, the SFX always end up going down the worst route. DRK is stuck with literally the most boring animations from HW instead of any of the cool ones.
