    WHM Pebble Tossers

This is a dumb topic but it's been on my mind for too long and I need to put it out somewhere and I'm sorry.

The JP playerbase pre-ShB used to refer to WHM (or healers?) that preferred to dps over keeping their party alive as 石投げ士, or Pebble Tosser, in reference to their attack spells being Stone.

I recently stumbled on a Dengeki Online article describing the job's changes during the ShB Media Tour and the first thing they say regarding Glare was "You can't say all we do is just throw rocks anymore!" and I've since been wondering if the devs somehow decided it was the visual effect that was the problem and that's how we ended up with just lights and flowers made of light from then on.

Surely they couldn't be that cheeky, right? Right??

No, it’s completely on-brand. Especially following all of the other healer changes. For example, SGE, is supposed to be “heals through DPSing”, but it’s only Kardia. So…no…you’re not really healing through DPSing, but they claim they did. Or with SCH and Seraphism. You ate so many fairies, you get to turn into a fairy…I mean get to turn into an angel, because we can totally dissipate Seraph, right? Right?

No it's because they ran out of spell names. I know in english it is just Stone I - IV, but in other languages the spells have specific endings. In german it's -ra, -ga, -ka for example, I don't know the endings in other languages. These endings are used in basically all Final Fantasy games and Yoshi did not wanted to invent a new ending for the spell names.

It's also likely the reason why we jumped from Glare to Glare III / -ga, so we could end on level 100 with the -ka ending.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

Off topic, but why is English literally the only language to get a numbered spell naming system instead of a suffix based on? Do they genuinely think EN players are that stupid that we can’t understand -ra/-ga/-ja lol. The more I read or think about this game the more it feels like a huge middle finger to western English players (sorry EN speakers you’re too stupid for suffixes, here’s some numbers so you don’t tax your tiny little western brain).

Right it's Stone, Stonra, Stonga, Stonja in Japanese too, but they dodged that problem for BLM by adding High to the name and calling it High Fira and such.

Also YoshiP's joked about going to -gyo suffixes, which Amdapor canonically debated on using vs the -ja suffix for CureIV, according to one of the books found in Gubal Hard.

Which raises the question: Where is our Cure IV?

KH also has the 5th level suffix as -Za (as in, Stopza), so we still had some space

I wish we EN at least had the option of whether to use I/II/III or Cure/Cura/Curaga based on preference
