    Questions from a newbie!

Hello all! Loving ff14 since i restarted huge improvements since beta and early launch.

So as a newbie with some experince playing ffxi i have a few questions regarding classes and grand companys as well as a few other small things.

Question 1! as someone that loves melee classes tanks or dd which class would be best to rank up first, or which classes are more subjob related like war and nin where in ffxi?

Question 2! I know you unlock grand companys at level 25 ish but my confusion comes from i can still do all three? THerefore would it be better to grind the other two ones i dont want to get the lower rank gear and items or can i change companys later like you could with city states in ffxi?

Question 3! Last one dont wanna make this too long ^_~!

Ive noticed they implimented things that look like dungeons in WoW how do these work?!

    Thanks in advance!

Pick the class/job that is most appealing to you. They all rely heavily on skills from others, especially when just the class itself is being used.

Regardless of what others will say, each class has it's strengths and is useful in nearly everything .. just get in plenty of practice and prepare to whoop (or heal ) some ass!

Well they will probably move this thread to the new player help forums, but to answer your first question if you like melee/tank style classes I would suggest war is a good place to start. It's useful for almost everything, and is an easy class to play well. the subjob system you're used to from XI doesn't really apply here. For any given job there are other classes that you will have to level to get their skills for the job you want to play. Like for War you may want second wind so you're stuck leveling mnk to 15 or what ever level they is you get it at.

For your second question you only need one company, I'm not even sure if it's possible to change, but it surly wouldn't be worth it.

The dungeons are pretty much endgame content, they consist of one party and they have different challenges you face to get end game gear, or you can trade in for grand company seals.

For grand company, you will find that at the start you will be required to go to each nation and try there starting missions first. It bounces around between all grand companies early on. But you will get to a point where it will require you to stick with one grand company, and you will only be able to do the grand company you chose. So find one that your heart is set on while doing those entry level missions, so that you know who you wanna be with the remainder of the game.

Question1: all the classes kind of build off one another, Basically to be a decent you'll need to lvl all the battle classes to something, it's usually pretty apparent. Like in the early days it's wise to take CNJ to at least 6 for protect, and PUG to 6 for Second Wind, when soloing these are indespinsible and for a Tank Second Wind is a must have skill. at the same time, just about every class benefits from having Sentinel... Basically....what I'm saying is....you'll wind up playing every job and you may come away finding out you like jobs you thought you wouldn't. I was pretty much a melee DD person but found I really dig THM/BLM after just trying to get a specific skill from it, and also thought I would hate ARC, but that's now basically my main, and I only started lvling it for Chameleon.

Question 2: You have to do the first 6 quests for all the GC before you can officially join anyone of them, you'll usually walk away from the Join up process with around 1.5k seals (give or take) for each company. when it comes time to join ONE AND ONLY ONE, spend the seals from the companies you don't want to join, as they will be locked (not deleted, but might as well spend 'em) and then Join the one you like best. the rewards are comparable across the board so choose the one you like, not the one with "best rewards".

Question 3:...fairly similar but no Dungeon Finder (yet), but mostly a run through trash mobs to get to a boss... so yeah, fairly MMO standard.

I'd level every job to 30 and see which you like best. once every job is 30 you'll have a decent idea of what you like and what each class can do. certain roles change drastically in parties (WHM) and change even more for end-game content (PLD) some pretty much stay exactly the same no matter what you are doing (WAR)

You currently cannot change GCs. this is supposed to change in 2.0. what the downside is to this is still unknown. (obviously you'll lose seals and rank, but will you lose equipment too?)

I would wait until you decide what class(es) you want to main and decide what gear you would like best from which GC. if you want purely for storyline purposes i woudl read the little blurbs on each GC on the top-page of lodestone and pick from there. if you're not really worried about gear it doesn't matter at all.

there is one low level dungeon (toto-rak) which is not run at all really. it's part of a GC quest and doesn't matter except for farming seals for the most part.

there are a couple of other high level ones, but most people do these either for AF/quest or you have an LS that runs them regularly. you dont' see a lot of PuGing of dungeons unless it is for AF/Quest.

the best way to get XP is grinding/power leveling. there are other options but these are the fastest.

the pattern i see is PL/solo to 35ish. grind raptors to 40, switch camps and grind on higher level raptors (40-45) or go to natalan(also known as SB parties) (40-50).

I got my WHM to 35 over a weekend of soloing and was 50 in 2 days from SB parties.

I also recomend you worry about gear untill 45+. get NM gear if you can, and only really worry about your weapon. the amount of stats you can get and their benefit is minimal pre-50.

Yeah i would recommend taking them all to thirty since if you're going to open jobs you'll need certain jobs to 15 like a sub job so if you take them to 30 you'd at least have the means to open said jobs you want to do as well as have certain spells that are good to add with the classes (like cure and raise and such)

First you should get the ability "Second Wind" from pugilist which is at level 6. Its beneficial to every single class you'll be leveling up. There are also a few other abilities but, IMO, that one is the most important.

For end game DD classes, you'll want archer at 42 for some of their (- enmity) abilities.

If you want a class that can probably get to 50 the quickest, I'd say White Mage.

Personally, I'm trying to get all jobs to 30 (At least 15) and then eventually 50.

might as well take pug to at least 15 then because half of the jobs require pug as secondary
