This thread coming back to life is insane to me.
I had a dream that after finishing the MSQ, all of the Dawntrail zone's BGM changed to Smile, I was trying to FATE farm and slowly losing my mind as Smile kept looping over and over and over. I woke up with the song stuck in my head and mad about it, because I also don't like this goofy-ass direct-to-video Disney song.
I'm blaming this thread for my dream.

Keep this entire VA Bryer scenario back where it belongs: On Twitter.
Do not bring whatever dumpster fire that got started there here, because the thread post is a strongly-inclined opinion and does not welcome debate, hence it is clickbait. Take it back where it belongs.
"Black gospel" music has soul. This is sunday choir music at best and people are in their full rights to hate any piece of music they want to hate. I HATE SMILE. And games don't need to have tributes to any culture, they need to create their own cultures within THEIR OWN WORLD SETTING. People who want real world mirrors, should go play games based on the real world instead.
Youtube any "black gospel" music and hear the difference. Any rendition of "Oh happy day".
Hell, Disney Hercules' "Zero to hero" is more soulful than "Smile"
It's a problem of Soken trying to explain emotions through lyrics again, instead of doing it through the music like he's supposed to. It's the same problem as the story version of "Show don't tell" that the MSQ is suffering from.
A lot of great games explain their scenes through the music, the melodies. We don't need you to blast our ears with "Feel happy, because happy happy!" show it through the music. And sorry for commenting, cause it will keep this thread up, though it belongs in oblivion.
I agree I think soken is pretty good when it comes to atmospheric and environmental music and had some music with lyrics in it that I think are good like tsukiyomi trial and the trailer songs for endwalker and shadowbringers. But in my opinion I felt smiles was like a "what was he on when he wrote this song" and was a massive drop in quality compared to 99% of his other music.

That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.
Music taste is subjective. You aren't racist or bigoted just because you don't like a genre of music but this is where Twitter brain rot has gotten us. I like the song personally but most people don't and that's perfectly fine.
Apologies for the slightly-off-topic question, but does anyone know what happened to the song Amanda Achen was singing in the full trailer? I don't think we've heard that and I was really looking forward to it. Did it get scrapped for Smile? If so I will be seriously ticked off, cause the trailer one sounded MUCH better than the one we got. Or did something happen to Amanda and she had to back out, like health issues or something?
Aw, the true Dawntrail theme. Hearing it in the full trailer is what admittedly got me pumped for DT in the first place. That, and seeing the canon WoL's ruggedly handsome face...I'm a simple woman.Apologies for the slightly-off-topic question, but does anyone know what happened to the song Amanda Achen was singing in the full trailer?
