    Scuf Controller mapping all over

Greetings fellow gamers. Has anyone had an issue with a Scuf controller where once you connect it and all the mappings go all over? Specifically, all my face buttons are swapped, A <-> X, and B <-> Y, and my start/select buttons correspond to my triggers. Everything else in steam and all my other games read the inputs correctly so its just a FF14 issue so. nothing i tried has worked. ANy help would be v appreciated

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We apologize for any inconvenience that has occurred when playing Final Fantasy XIV. Unfortunately, the issue you are describing does not appear to be a technical issue. We will go ahead and move this thread to “General Discussion" instead.

Thank you once again for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

Can't say I have had this technical issue before with a controller, but it almost sounds like a driver or firmware that could be outdated if the controller just isn't "broken".

If you normally connect it to a pc to play, you should be able to check that out in Windows Device Manager to see if it provisioned correctly, and also to see if there is any errors or updates you could apple (you may need to go to manufacturer website)

If you connect to a game system (xbox, ps4, ect...), you may have a console update you need to apply if the controller is not "broken".

Those are the area's I would start with. Sorry I don't have more then the general "make sure everything is updated and turn off and on again" troubleshooting, but checking those will at least make sure that the system and controller are talking right between each other.

You should be able to use the in-game calibration to tell it which buttons correspond to what. The auto-detection is frequently unreliable. (Up until 7.0, it registered entirely different buttons between the DualSense and DualSense Edge.)

But if it's like the DS Edge, there's a chance it won't work with the in-game calibration, at which point running through Steam (as a non-Steam app) with Steam Input enabled is one of a few ways to change how it is detected by FFXIV.

(From the title I thought the topic was about how controller input is scuffed in general, which is also true.)

This just happened to me with my new steam controller, and after hours I solved it!

For anyone finding this thread now (It was the highest google result on a page where replies weren't locked): Go to System Configuration -> Gamepad Settings -> Button Calibration, and reset to defaults

I don't know what cause it to happen, but the game had a wildly customised Button Configuration that perfectly matched what was described in this post. I certainly never modified them, and the fact that I've found a few different people all with the exact same weird custom mapping is no coincidence, but at least the fix is as simple as going to that one setting and resetting to defaults.

Hope this helps someone else avoid the pain I just went through!
