Weekly Lockout on normal Raids necessary?

So what are your thoughts on the weekly lockout of loot in normal raids?

Is that really necessary? Consider this, after only two weeks of normal raids, you can easily gear every slot with crafted gear, which is also better when you overmeld it, rendering normal raid gear obsolete for the most part.

I have never once bought a weapon for 7 Tokens, because by the time i have enough tokens, i don't need that weapon anymore.

Normal raids shouldn't have a weekly lockout.

It helps keep the content alive and active for the duration of the patch. There's always a balancing act between drawing content out too long or making it all completable in the first week and then nobody touches it again (criterion).

Necessary for horizontal progression but should be relaxed to accommodate people that play several roles

The answer is unequivocably yes, there needs to be a regulator on how fast you can "finish". This is why there are caps on tomestones, raid loot, etc. People grind...get everything they want, run out of things to do and disappear.

And why is that a bad thing? There's a hundred games coming out each day on Steam alone, if someone wants to get it done and play something else, let him.

There are a lot of reasons it's a bad thing. The health of a persistent online game is found in the ability for players to move through content, which requires a healthy population of players willing to stick around and act as the vehicle by which players can "hitch a ride" through content with a shallow pool of peers at that level.

It is literally the reason that the daily roulette exists with multiple options. If players could blow through content in a week, then hang it up until the next content patch, this dries up. The mechanism doesn't exist for you alone, it exists to provide you as a tool for other players.

So? Didn't Yoshi-P himself say that we should take breaks and play other games? The vast majority of people won't grind things out instantly and I see no reason to stop the very small minority that would.

This is why context matters. He didn't say it in the context of blowing through content for a couple weeks then disappearing until the next content patch. It was to dispel the idea of spending too much time in game being a good thing.

From the "taking a break" standpoint, what difference is there in raid logging, getting your weekly drops in a couple hours, then "taking a break" and playing something else until tuesday? From a game longevity and game health perspective, there's a HUGE difference, but from the "taking a break" perspective, there's functionally no difference, except that perhaps the individual doing that would be less likely to burn out.
