A shortage? Are you serious? (endgame dt spoilers)

We are told that a shortage of electrope is what prompted the Storm Surge that eventually wiped out the 12th reflection (?) and almost completely destroyed Alexandria.

    A shortage...

    A shortage... of...

    ...electrope?

    So, you're telling me that:
    1. There wasn't enough electrope in the 12th reflection to satisfy everyone's needs.
    2. After the Storm Surge, the big lightning barrier was erected, preventing people within Alexandria from leaving.
    3. Miraculously, within this lightning barrier, they not only 'found' enough electrope to fulfill all of their needs, but also to construct literally every single building and piece of infrastructure out of it, including but not limited to a MOUNTAIN-SIZED ARCOLOGY and a MASSIVE METROPOLITAN AREA exclusively constructed from the stuff?

If there was this much of the stuff just in Alexandria, the only 'shortage' that could have arisen is from the complete stupidity of everyone else on that stupid reflection.

But, okay, they're dead, now all that's left is Alexandria.

But... do these people not know what rocks are? Wood? Other metals?

Okay, I can understand no wood, because, y'know, dystopian hellscape full of lightning and all that. But, like, there is no reason why they can't just build stuff out of rocks or bricks.

The Outskirts has been there for, 30 years? Still standing.

Even the rickety bridge that passes through Yyasulani Station is still mostly intact, and is probably only falling apart due to not being maintained.

If everyone from the 12th is this stupid, I'm amazed that there was even anyone left in there for Zoraal Jerk to take over.

I thought they were being destroyed because they had so much electrope and another country wanted their shit.

Why do you assume anything has to do with the thunder calamity and the 12th? A calamity happens when a shard is rejoined. Thus Alexandria is probably NOT from the shard that created the thunder calamity, since it doesn't exists anymore. It's never told it's from the 12th reflexion.

Then, There are 8 elements if you count light and darkness and 13 reflexions. If the plan went out, there could have been another thunder calamity.

Also, I don't remember about a shortage (just that Lindblum attacked Alexandria to get their electrope ressource, while also having some, but less), but rather Lindblum making a weapon with it that went far beyond what they planned.

My recollection of a 'shortage' was not to do with Electrope itself but rather the fact that for how their 'civilization' worked is that they needed souls in order to maintain the regulators, hence why Sphene wanted to go around souping up souls from other reflections. - This is my vague memory of a fairly uninteresting story though.

We know that Alexandria was once part of a different reflection. After the 'barrier' was raised, the fate of the rest of their world is entirely unknown to them. We know they have the means to dimension hop or cause 'dimensional merges', but do not know how long they've had this means, so there are a number of ways Alexandria could have avoided being rejoined.

A calamity happens because the aether on a reflection and on the Source becomes so high that the aether from the reflection 'floods' the Source, rejoining the two. Lightning calamity... reflection destroyed by lightning... no connection here?

It was stated that the weapon was created over the course of the Storm Surge war over electrope.

Even so, nobody ever thought that better resource production or even just trading the stupid stuff would be preferable to destroying the world?

I'm saying you can have 2 lightning calamities because there are more shards than elements, and since you LITTERALLY go in the shard where Alexandria comes from (12th floor is still in that shard), it means the shard STILL exists, and thus it's probably not the 12th. There is the possibility of time travel to a past where the second calamity didn't happen yet, but if that a possibility, you can make the ascian come back from the past, and still recreate Zordiark with part of him from when he existed. If that's the way they go, nothing matter anymore story wise. So I'm gonna assume they thought a little about it.

IDK where many folk here get their info.

but it seems so off base.

If we see the destroyed remnants of old Alexandria, it's clear how long ago the divergence in time it's been since their Calamity.

But Since the point of the thread is to inform/discover the scarcity or lack of electrope.

    Rather than the Calamity.

REMEMBER FOLKS, A CALAMITY CAN OCCUR WITHOUT RESULTING IN A REJOINING.(EX: 13th, or the Forestalled 1st<which we then ended/denied>)

It doesn't take a genius, or a normal person of intellect to see.

That the Resource Scarcity of Electrope was during the Calamity of their "SHARD".

We Know that locations without any connections or synchronization of Time. Experience Variable/Large Divergences in Time. (Just as Yyasulani experienced a 30yr Time Gap in such a short time.)

It's not hard to see that during that time.
Alexandria had survived, and Rebuilt their nation into S9.
(Be that within their bubble or any other land related to their shard, is a different topic)

The Milala large had hands on the Development of the Tech. as it was their Knowledge that began that off shot of Development. (Ever Since they lived in Alo Alo, and fled from the source).

It just makes sense that after Alexandria Survived. They manufactured and reused whatever remaining electrope they had. and Advanced/Refined Their "Stone-Circuitry" Technology. [Not unlike Redstone]

I can't be exact on why the shards specifically can or can't be the same elements.

But it's clear the Ascians had Plans. Just like the 12 had their Astral and Umbral Polarities.

2 Polarities of Each element. But we don't have any concrete data. On how they chose which shard to be which type.

All we know, is that there are 13 Shards and a Source.
1 Planned Light, one Dark, One Lightning, Water, Fire, Ice.
    ETC ETC.

It would be an interesting topic for the more lore inclined of us to have. but we should probably shy away from getting distracted from the easily answerable question of the "Perceived Electrope Scarcity" when comparing a Nation during Calamity, and a Surviving Nation Post 100's of Years of Development and New/Reused Resources.

I hate to break it to you but there are plenty of examples of real cities being destroyed despite their efforts to appease their conquerors.

Umbral Calamities are specifically the disasters on the Source when a Rejoining occurs, and a shard being consumed by Light or Dark renders it unable to be rejoined.

I agree that this is one of Dawntrail's many plot points where they tell you something and then (without realizing it) show you that it was false. These people are using electrope to warm their coffee, which heavily indicates that there was no shortage, which contradicts the idea that there was a world war due to a shortage of electrope.

That said, from the information we're given, Alexandria was almost certainly not in the 12th shard. The Millala escaped from the Source to another shard during the Thunder calamity, after which their people stayed on that shard for a time; they could not have remained in a shard that had been reabsorbed into the Source. Additionally, Living Memory was still in the other shard.

That said, given the numerous plot holes in DT, I wouldn't be surprised if they explicitly tell us that Alexandria was in the 12th in a future patch. At which point I'll just shrug my shoulders and say "SLOPPY".
