It does not use your subscription for FFXIV, it uses that money to finance console games which only make up 0.5% of its annual revenue. FFXIV is only funded by microtransactions from the online store. That's why these summer events exist: to promote FOMO and sales on the online store. You will continue subscribing and you will buy the "new" outfits on the store. Nothing will change.
