Now that I think about it, Dawntrail is the perfect expansion to implement further Egis/"gemstone summons" considering its FF9 influences (and more specifically, how its summons were tied to gemstones).
Please dev' team, make it so.

Forever waiting on *new* Egis/summons (e.g. Ramuh-Egi).
I genuinely hated SMN until EW. Now I play it.
99.99% chance probably a Titanman alt
Personally, I'd rather have the ability to "mix-and-match" any summon we wanted (through a dedicated UI), instead of tying them to specific phases.
Otherwise, we'd have to "wait" for the ones we liked most in our rotation (like 2 mins. or so).

The only issue with that would be having to add new buttons for every summon, which would ultimately end up limiting our ability to get new summons in the future. The devs have said they’re worried about button bloat, and honestly so am I playing on controller! lol The gem buttons are a good system for expanding our roster of summons, but they need to start adding gems before more Demis!
But as I’ve said elsewhere, I would like a button that lets us choose which phase to start in, and imo the easiest way to do that would be to add the remaining elemental summons (Levi, Shiva, Ramuh) and then split the 6 elements into their astral/umbral groups that you could choose depending on what you want up for certain mechanics. Similar to PCT’s Subtractive Palette or BLM’s Transpose. It seems like they might be leaning into this kind of duality based on the other casters, and it would add a layer of complexity to SMN while still allowing for a simple baseline rotation and minimal button bloat.
there could very well be a very short ogcd that allows you to switch from one triple to another. The only issue with that would be having to add new buttons for every summon, which would ultimately end up limiting our ability to get new summons in the future. But honestly the problem with smn, at least from my point of view, is that it is bland and is all show and little substance: having few keys to press combined with the fact that they are almost all instant, make smn extremely boring to play seriously and his summons are a bad copy of the other.
An excellent class to use for farming roulettes and a real bypass of the minimum requirements to enter a hard content
SMN main problem is that it isn't a pet job and it isn't a Summoner either. Your pet is a stance that's all.
