Please, for the love of Pete, make it so that people with some mild ping don't get completely screwed over.
Snapshots are great and all, it's a mechanic I can work around with. I understand how they work.
But if you have 150 ping or more, you can start to see some weird stuff like:
- Taking damage before a boss/arena tell even resolves.
- When healing, I apply a shield slightly before the castbar finishes but server-side it is applied after the castbar finishes, meaning it's not used. The same goes for mitigations.
- Being visibly out of range of a mechanic, but the snapshot happened before any floor AOE even showed up. Literally impossible to do a minor adjustment based on floor AOE.
- slow-moving objects to dodge (think Strayborough first boss)? Well you can be visibly out of range and never touch anything... still get hit because the server is being a turd and thinks you are still standing where you were 0.2 seconds ago and that means in range of the slow-moving object that is ahead 0.2 seconds from where you are seeing it on your screen.
- M2 and M2S are egregious with the RNG Alarm Pheromones. Tell me how it is possible that I am sliding across the floor and dead into the wall before the line AOE even shows up? I can dodge stuff. I'll happily cancel a cast and not greed in order to not have my pinky toe in a mechanic. But I can not accurately and pixel-perfectly determine how wide the dang beeline is that spawned on the other side of the arena when it goes off, so I would love if I can see the aoe, do a micro adjustment of a few steps to get out of it, and NOT die.
I know it can be considered a 'skill issue' and I have an internal timer to resolve mechanics if I see them enough and have tested out exactly when I can move before a mechanic resolves on my end because I know the server has snapshotted me in a safe area. I've done plenty of hard fights and if the mechanic has predictable patterns, this is very doable to do even with ping.
But it is excessively difficult, if not outright impossible to do if does the above AND is also RNG.
TL;DR: Adding randomized pattern-less mechanics that resolve before aoes show up when you have moderate ping is not "haha extra difficulty git gud", it is just being inconsiderate to a significant portion of the playerbase who just are some distance away from servers and consequently do not get the leeway that low-ping players have to do micro-adjustments.
